Fisher Space Pen

Cheapest way to get an all-metal click-ballpoint that takes Fisher Space Pen refills. Get a brushed Stainless Steel Parker Jotter. Get a Fisher refill that comes with the White-top adapter. Stick that firmly over the top of the refill. Stick the refill in the pen. Done!

By the way, has anyone checked the mass of the almost dead rod? If have a medical scale, can tell by the mass how much ink is left there in order to predict when need to be ready to change the refill. Similar to checking battery capacity
I was still interested, so I asked them directly, surprisingly they answered. So I'll have to look for an accurate pharmacy scale. I think that when approaching 2.7 g, I need to keep a fresh rod nearby:
the approximate full weight is 3.3 g. and the approximate empty weight is 2.5 g.

Uniball PowerTank pens --

These *FANTASTIC* ballpoint pens are NOT gel.
I like these MUCH better than the
Fisher Space Pens.

Much better writing quality,
and "water-proofness".
Uniball is a real find, thank you! I ordered 5 pieces, let's see how good they are

Burgess, I've just received a couple of these Uniball pens and I really like them. You are correct - the writing quality is really good. No skips!

I also just got a box of Uniball Powertanks and am trying them out. So far, so good, compared to Fisher Space Pen. Writes upside down. I haven't tried underwater or in freezing temps yet. Seems to be a bit smoother and easier to write than Fisher. However, the "refill" doesn't look like it would fit in any standard body, its a humongus, double tube affair.

edit: photo is a Powertank RT body at top, then its refill. Next is a gold colored Fisher refill, bottom is a Parker-style Schmidt Easyflow refill.

I've been using these for several months now, and the more I use them the more I like them. I routinely grab this one instead of a regular pen now.

Zebra F-701 all metal and a Parker Jotter that appeared out of nowhere a few years ago are my go to pens. When it comes to pencils…do yourself a favor and go buy a box of General's Cedar Pointe #333. God was having a great day when he made this pencil. Raw cedar, steel ferrule, cool looks, and smooth writing. Bonus points for the patina the wood takes on from the oils from your hand while you use it. 👍🏼

The bottom one in the photo is a Parker Jotter sized refill.
The one in the middle looks like a Cross type.
The top one is a uniball type

I use a zebra 701 and sometimes a vintage center click Parker jotter. Yup, used to be the click occured via pressing the top half toward the bottom half.

Zebra F-701 isn't all metal, unfortunately. From the outside, it looks like it. Excellent EDC click pen. But if you want an All-metal stainless steel pen (except for the clip) Parker Jotter.

I've takin a few of these apart for fisher space pen refill mods. The mechanism (retractor I believe is what it's called) inside that the refill goes into between refill and clicker is plastic. There's also a plastic washer inside the pen tip to prevent wiggle when writing

I thought I read somewhere that these newer ones replaced those plastic bits with metal, but I could definitely be completely wrong. I'm not attached to it being all metal, just thought it was.

I also keep an F-701 around. I removed the plastic inner tip spacer so it can fit Fisher Space refills. And there's a little plastic ring around the top where the clicker button goes up/down. Perhaps older versions were different. I assume some of the innards are plastic, but the body is certainly metal.

I also have some F-301s around - I drill out the tips to fit Fisher Space refills.

I broke one only a year ago testing it out to see if it was a viable tactical pen. Two shots, broken. What I saw inside was clearly plastic. Maybe they upgraded the basic design to all-stainless steel during the past year. Honestly, seriously doubt it.

There are 4 versions of the f701. The oldest version was metal on the outside and plastic internals. There was a hack were you took the internals from another pen (F 402 I think) and inserted it into the 701 body. The 2nd generation of 701's and the F-xMD are now all metal internals but had a plastic tube inside. The newest version is truly all metal. That version has the word Indonesia stamped on the tube opposite the pocket clip. This video covers the models but does not show the tubes inside. I have the newest "Indonesia" versions and I can confirm they are all metal.

Well, we're going to see just how good the All-Metal version really is. Bought one yesterday while Christmas shopping. Staples store close to the mall. Needed A.T. Cross standard ballpoint refills, saw the All-Metal Zebra F-701 on the peg, bought it. Testing will start tomorrow for an eventual review on my main YouTube channel.
