I ordered this light a week ago and wondered if anyone knows much about it.
I have an existing 12v pack I plan on running it off of, but didn't know if that's possible with the onboard Buck boost.
I was planning on cutting down the battery housing to use as a helmet light and mounting it with a flashlight mount I found on Batteryspace.com.
Anyone have any insight?

If you have a 12V pack that can fit in the space of 4 CR123s and supply a little over 1 Amp, then you should be fine. The problem is, your pack may still overdrive the LEDs. The light may actually be direct drive on high with the three emitters in series getting around 1 Amp. Be aware that a 12V Nimh pack can supply well over 12V when fully charged. It will depend on which batteries they are and how well rested they are after charging. This arrangement would explain their claim of 500 lumens, though that is almost certainly based on data sheets and would be considered like 'bulb lumens' or 'LED lumens' and not an actual lumens measurement. This light ought to put out somewhere around 350 'torch lumens' after factoring in junction temperature losses and optics losses. That is still an ample amount of light that should have decent throw with that tri-optic.

I'm actually planning on running the power through the side of the battery housing after I cut down the tube length. I'm planning on using as much of the existing wiring as possible and hope to use the "clicky" switch already on the unit. I just wasn't sure if there is an onboard driver or not or what rate it's running at.
I'll post beam shot's and additional info when I get the thing and do the mod.
I only bought it 'cause I couldn't build it for anywhere near the price.
I also think it's nice that someone else has done all the hard machining for me.

It hopefully will go as smoothly as the above listed mod.
