Flashlight Necklace, please read details

Hey, I don't post much but read a lot, so I know what's up with flashlights, LEDs, etc. I just read the most amazing thread of small lights, by HKJ, and decided I'd like to get one. So, I know about the existence of all the cool micro lights. In fact, I almost ordered a Lummi. However, a few wrinkles developed. Some are just silly, but one is more or less a necessity.

1. I like both the Raw and the Wee. The wee size is spectacular, but for necklace/jewelry functionality, I was thinking that it would be nice if there were actual visible tritium tubes on it; e.g. along the side of it, as opposed to locked away in the back. I know it's probably too small to have trits along the sides, and that probably the Raw is too big for a non-ridiculous necklace (I'm 5'11", 180 pounds, so I'm not a huge guy, but not tiny). So, if someone could post some pics of attempting to have the Raw on their neck (not halfway down their torso, see the next point), that would be great.

2. The other problem is rather more important to me. The problem with just buying a wee or a raw and just having done with it is this: I don't like having the flashlight hang down as a pendant. I'd like it to be attached at both ends, so it looks more like a proper necklace than a flashlight. The flashlight bezel up or down thing just seems a little too geeky for me. I know it's functional, but it doesn't do it for me. I'd like the necklace to be cinched up higher, within 3 inches of my neck, and from what I've seen, it doesn't look like a normal piece of jewelry cinched up. Maybe I'm wrong, if you can post some pictures to prove me wrong, I'd be glad for it. My main point is, I think a flashlight masquerading as a necklace is cool, but the reverse is too dorky for me.

If I am not proved wrong, are there any options I would have? Could someone drill a hole near the bezel? Could someone thread the inner part of the bezel before the glass and make a threaded endcap that would attach it as a necklace? I don't care for the lost ease of use; using it wouldn't be an everyday thing, but wearing it would be.

Final thought, after all this puzzling of how to make the Wee do what I wanted was this: is there another option? Would a Zebralight be close enough to the size that it is not bulky, hang how I like, and appear as jewelry? My only misgiving is that they don't make a neutral/warm led cr123 version.

The beam pattern doesn't matter; output should be at least 25 lumens; but I don't want a spectacular 15 minute wonder.

Anyway, any help is appreciated. My requirements, to sum it up, are this:
1. Doesn't appear like a flashlight/looks COMPLETELY normal/fashionable as a necklace.
2. Doesn't appear dorky (see number one)
3. Uses a power led; otherwise I'd get a la petite or whatever
4. Uses a neutral/warm led. I've lost any taste for blue/white leds.
5. After all these req.s, price plays some factor. I can't afford a $500 custom solution, and naturally a cheaper but still acceptable option will win over a much more expensive one.

Thanks guys!

you have ALOT of expectation mate.

-Fashionable: custom Ti AAA Killer
-25lumen+: Drake/Draco

-Dorky or not depends on you, not so much the light. Try put a Wee on Brad Pitt and lets see how dorky he gets. lol

Thanks for a reply. What's the part that is expecting a lot- the non-custom part, or the non-dorky part? Does the Drake/Draco offer the sideways mounting option; otherwise what advantage is it offering? I know it offers knurling, multiple levels, and that stuff, but that isn't so important to me- as long as it runs for at least even 10 minutes, is decently bright (say even 15 or 20 lumens), is warm or neutral LED, and looks good, I don't care about the UI or the rest.

This is the only image I've seen for the wee. The necklace looks a little too bulky and functional, with the clips, the chain, and the placement of the wee. The wee might actually look just fine if it was just with the chain minus all the other clips and attachments. If there are other more jewelry mounted pictures, I'd be glad to see them; it's just that the picture there screams tool versus necklace.

So put whatever light you want on whatever necklace you want. A nice light will simply look like an ornamental pendant on an elegant chain. It's not exactly rocket science...

Hmm... there's a point there. I would just hack it with another light; but I'm looking to this as a back up/emergency light, so dependability is very important, but there probably will be some showing off, so the output would be nice.

Also, as Lummi is in England, I don't want to order a light, wait till it arrives, and discover that there is no way to attach it without a lot of extraneous boondoggles. Not owning a lathe, any personal attempt to modify it would probably break it, and I'd be even worse off :shakehead. Working with my hands is not my forte; otherwise I would already have acquired a zebralight and modded accordingly.

Maybe what I'm fishing for is other people that have necklace lights showing how they have them mounted; I know the Lummi guy probably didn't care about making it look as attractive as possible, but what with the gatlight and all that, I was thinking there had to be some fashion-conscious flashaholics who could opine on necklace lights.

If it can attach to a keychain, it can attach to a necklace. Again, it's not rocket science.

You just clip it onto any chain you desire...

Photon Fanatic has done small, intricately designed flashlights. I think the latest was an iridescent effect rainbow finish. sorry no searching for me right now,

How about just getting a Photon Freedom Micro with a yellow LED? It is certainly not ideal but at least it doesn't look like the typical flashlight hanging from your neck and it won't have the white/blue tint.

The problem (other than having a plastic pendant hanging from your neck) is that the output isn't that great.

Other than that, it sounds like you already know what other lights you should be getting. I think the Drake would look good as a keychain light since it is so small yet very powerful.

The CH20 style titanium chain found here is what I have my titanium WEE hanging from. I have it hanging just from the swivel attached to the light and it looks very nice.

However, I do keep it INSIDE my shirt and it only comes out when I need it or want to show it off.

My wife laughed about the idea of wanting a high end necklace flashlight without being geeky and said that anybody coming to CPF to find such a thing cannot escape the geekiness of it and should just embrace it, and she is the one who bought me my titanium WEE and chain! lovecpf

I'll get a photo of my setup which is a lot less bulky than the one pictured above. It really will probably suit you just fine.

If I understand the OP correctly, he does not want the light to look like a pendant; rather, he wants to attach one end of the chain to the tail cap and the other to the bezel. This would make the light look like part of the chain, rather than like a light hanging on a chain.

He needs to be able to attach a light on both ends of the light. Interesting. Personally I don't care for necklaces but I see what the OP wants. not sure it will ever look good.

I guess you could put a tight oring around the bezel and clip the chain to that (but it might slip). Let us know if you find a solution to attaching a chain on both ends of a light.

the wee has 2 x ~1mm holes on opposite ends of the tailcap. If you would thread a small chain through these holes, then you would have what I think you'd want. be mindfull of the weight of the torch though. Ti would be a good idea. Real jewellery would be the silver Wee (Ag) coupled with a silver chain.

on the photo above I threaded a thread through both holes and hung it around my neck. I never carry it like this though. I just got the Wee today and have decided to use it without any attachment.
