Flashlight Suggestions for Mother\'s Day?

My three kids are already hooked on flashlights. On the other hand, my wife thinks they (the flashlights, not the kids) are tolerable. My kids had a wonderful idea (wonder where they got this idea /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) to get their mom a flashlight for Mother's Day. So I am looking for just the right light for the special day. My wife has seen me play with all my lights but has never developed any interest. I was thinking about just getting her a Photon Freedom for her keyring? I already stash lights all around the house and car but she doesn't notice them. Any suggestions out there for the perfect flashlight for Mother's Day? Since this is a gift from my kids, they have to pay for it so price is a factor.

Regards.

Re: Flashlight Suggestions for Mother\'s Day?

Dorcy AAA 1 LED is a good little light for a gift, about 6 bucks. I gave one to my cousin last summer. At first he wasn't too impressed but as he used it camping and fishing he, uh, saw the light. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif
Or a Photon II is a pretty good light. The switch on it does come in handy.

UKE 2AAA eLed would be nice and small and unobtrusive. Put in a couple of Lithium AAAs and its always there when she needs a light.

Thanks for the suggestions. All are reasonable. Anything with a little flair?

Regards.

a thor? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

but REALLY, how about one of those lights from advanced mart, the 2 AAA .5 watt led light.

Re: Flashlight Suggestions for Mother\'s Day?

Hands down on the piggy light(sold by Waion?), I had shown it to many female friends and all of them want one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Any small led light will be great, such as Photon III(I love the auto-off on III rather than Freedom), Peak/ARC AAA...

Inova T2. This is my one light that I've had stolen by female counterparts and relatives more than any other.

I think you have the right idea with the Photon - something that she'll probably put on her keyring and not even notice until one day when she need s a flashlight - and there it will be to impress her and make her wonder how she managed without one........

I think the Photon Freedom nice as it is for us flashaholics - it's unnecessarily complex for a non-flashlight person....... anything that's not self-explanatory needing a manual is to be avoided - how do you think a non-flashlight person would think when told the flashlight "comes with a manual"?

I see you asked for something with a bit of flair - perhaps the Inova Microlight with transluscent body would be just the ticket - it looks flash and quality, simple to operate, and gives about the right amount of light for most close tasks... and since it's your kids buying it - it doesn't cost a lot either -
don't go fancy - just get the white...... (it doesn't need any explanation)

Re: Flashlight Suggestions for Mother\'s Day?

I was thinking that a small light that glowed in the dark would be kind of neat. Some small Photon IIs with cases that glowed would be the ticket - anyone see such an animal?

I had also thought of a Jil light being small enough for her keyring and impressively bright?

Regards.

How about a 2aa Mini-Mag in red or blue with a TerraLUX TLE-10 1/2 watt surface mount or TLE-5 1 watt Luxeon. I gave my wife a red 2aa Mini-Mag with a TLE-10 and she sets it on her dresser at night pointed towards the celling as a night light. She recharges the rechargable batteries during the day. The LED shines all night. Mini-Mags are cheap at Wal-mart and the TLE-10 is $18.95 at http://www.led-replacement.com/tle-10.html including free shipping.

How could I forget? Hunt down KevinL on CPF, and order a bunch of the Photon clones or even the Picolights, they're really nice and cheap. Then get a bunch of 26Kmcd Leds from him as well, and replace the ones in the Photon clones, and you have it nice and bright! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Else, a Tektite Splashlite Led (not the Luxeon) is also a good buy at around $20...

Re: Flashlight Suggestions for Mother\'s Day?

The 2x brighter Photon Freedom would be my choice. But if you think it might be too complicated, then the Photon II is a really great, simple light. I've given Photons to quite a few people, women included, and they all seem to like it, and more importantly, carry and use it.

The Photon Freedom clip is very useful--it can be attached as a zipper pull or to a handle/ring on a purse, thereby serving as a very useful light to find things (like keys!) inside the purse, as well as to light keyholes, etc. outside the purse.

I have a couple of Photons clipped to an outside ring on a carry-all bag, and one of the things I find most useful, is the fact that I always know where it is, and therefore can easily access it any time, even in the dark.

Re: Flashlight Suggestions for Mother\'s Day?

I had thought about the Photon Freedom (I have an old one) but am concerned whether the ramp up process is too complictated. I am thinking that some Photon IIs or clones might be the ticket. I just asked my kids what type of light they think mom wants and, in proper CPF response: small and bright! Flashaholics in training!

Regards.

Re: Flashlight Suggestions for Mother\'s Day?

As soon as my mother saw my CPF SE LionHeart, she's wanted a good flashlight. I suspect one of my LionCub's will be a belated M-Day gift.

Re: Flashlight Suggestions for Mother\'s Day?

My mom likes her 7 led light. It uses 3c and is a little bulky, but it makes it easier to find. Bright, with lots of flood. Perfect for walking the dog at night. I think streamlight makes a 2AA light with 4 or 6 leds.

Re: Flashlight Suggestions for Mother\'s Day?

MY, if you're getting(or already got) two Photons, that's great. I hope one was in the covert model. Very, very useful.

Why two Photons? 1)They're so small that two lights still take very little space; 2)you always have a "back-up" light; and 3)with the lights placed back-to-back, when needed you can turn on both lights at one time between thumb and forefinger, giving you twice as much light.

The covert feature is good for use in low-light situations like at theatres and restaurants to avoid distracting others around you and/or ruining your "dark-adapted" vision. And when needed, the "regular" Photon lights up a larger area. The use of a clip makes it easy to move the light as needed (from place to place or from purse to purse).
