Improperly handling lithium batteries is not a good idea. Hope the recovery goes well

Keys likely made contact and thus a short circuit. I guess. I doubt that they conducted a real investigation.

..."Personal property used in a vaping kit".... OK, so we know that it's not a specialty medical device battery with exposed contacts in weird locations. Did the keys short the battery terminals? It seems like common sense that spare batteries would be carried in insulating plastic clamshells or something.

I remember carrying a lose alkaleak in my pocket once that got very hot when shorted by pocket change. It was from that point on I never carried loose batteries with anything loose and metallic.
