I wonder how many R2's Crees with 19mm reflectors I could stuff in there, would it be brighter?

Good luck with the sale!

Re: For Sale: 525,000 Lumens Monster 60" Carbon Arc Anti-Aircraft light from WWII

I should have mentioned my opinion that this light is not really a business asset that could be used to make a lot of money or sustain a living. It's a hobby light that could be used to reimburse yourself for its purchase cost eventually in a few years depending on how much business you round up. Parts are still available from a few sources who have good stockpiles. You need to be good mechanically because, after all, they are 65 years old and do need tweaks, adjustments and regular maintenance. This light happens to be pretty trouble-free and very reliable but I will tell you that I don't leave it when it's running. For instance, if somehow the rod feed gets out of adjustment or stops working, you could melt the $100 heat shield in less than a half a minute. Has that happened to me? No. But as I'm told, "there are those who've melted a shield and those who will".

Yeah BVH, good call on not leaving it while it's running. In all the literature I've read about movie arc-lights, it was suggested that each one be manned just in case of such an event happening.

Amazing piece of machinery / history you've got there.

I am thinking that maybe someone in the movie or entertainment industry might have the cash and be interested in such a marvel.

You could offer to pay him in meatballs, lol. The going rate seems to be $1,000 = 5.37 tons of meatballs, so this would cost you 112.77 tons of meatballs = 252,604.8 lbs. Mind you, I haven't been following the meatball futures market, so the price might have changed.

Another way of looking at it might be to offer meatballs "on the hoof", and pay in livestock. A fully-grown elephant weighs ~5 tons, so maybe BVH would like 22 or 23 adult elephants - that's a good-sized herd by anybody's standards.

Or maybe he doesn't want any elephants.
