Congratulations on the sale, but it will be a big shame if this important item of history is lost to CPF. Any chance you can persuade the new owner to sign up here?

You gotta give us something, even a broad category of buyer if you need to preserve their anonymity.

I'm both happy for you, and sad to see something you so loved go away.

No secrets here. He's got two of these already that he has to continually nursemaid. He's tired of doing that and wants one that is reliable. He's out of Beaumont CA, maybe 40 miles east of L.A. I've mentioned the forum but will again when I deliver it in a couple weeks. However, I don't think he's got a general interest in all kinds of lights. Just my take on it so far.

So he uses them for a light show business it sounds. Cool.

I was having ideas that John Travolta was getting it for his wife to signal when it is safe for him to land his Boeing 707 or Gulfstream on his private Florida home's 1.4 mile long runway.

Congrats on the sale!

amazing piece of history, sounds like it's going into the hands of someone who has some experience with them and will keep it tip top shape.

Tell the truth, BVH, you are feeling very sad about letting this go, and bringing your new career to an end. Now you are just like the rest of us normal flashaholics again.

Congrats on your sale Bob! I just noticed today that it sold. I suppose that since it didn't go to a CPFer that going to a specific type of enthusiast is the next best thing. Now you've got some spare change for the other projects. :)

OK, no problem. We'll spot him on Google Earth as soon as he fires it up.

Is this Arc still available? If so, how can I get in touch with you to get more details?
Thanks
Kurt

SOLD

I'm putting my Baby up for sale. It's time to move on to other things in life. Sales Price is $21,000. Sale price is now $15,000. Read all about it here:

I paid $20,000 for the light, genset and trailer. I've since purchased a $1,500 new-old stock electric control box that controls all the rod feed mechanisms. I have $1,600 worth of original 1940/1950's National Carbon rods unopened in their sawdust-filled tin cans. The engine has been completely tuned up and runs perfectly. It will idle smoothly at 300 RPM! If you've ever thought of owning one of these historic pieces, this is the one to own. The mirror - which is critical to light output, is an "8" on the "10" scale - almost impossible to find! This is the second-best - originally configured (separate light and genset on their original dollies) light rig in the world - I kid you not. The BEST light belongs to the other "Bob" and will be donated to a museum when he tires of it. And of course, I'd enjoy training you how to operate it and on how it works. The unit weighs around 8,500 pounds.

PM me for my phone number if you want more info.

I would be willing to deliver it for the cost of fuel pending the distance from Burbank, CA. (Within 100 miles would be free)

Re: For Sale: 525,000 Lumens Monster 60" Carbon Arc Anti-Aircraft light from WWII

Sorry, no I sold it back in May 09 for $20,000 to a guy in Banning or Beaumont CA (just west of Palm Springs) who was buying it to let a friend use to make some income. I believe the buyer owned a welding company in that area. I heard that the poor light never got used and just sits. It was a Excellent rig in appearance and performance. If interested, I could try to find out who it was.

Bob Mesa may know or have contact info as I think the buyer talked to him a couple of times. Let me know if you don't know who Bob Mesa is. (the U.S. King of the Carbon Arc in knowledge - has a good website with lots of info)
