The multi-mode D and C size (ML100?) have been a while in seeing the light of day. From what is known, these lights look to be pretty much the same size/configuration as the current LED models - which is rather large, IMO. Also, the 7 modes seem not to appeal to everyone. So, I'm thinking - why not a compact 3D host that takes standard P60 type drop-ins?
With 3x D size NiMH's (or easily available alkalines), you could customize your own work /duty light. You can use anything from the single mode, $9 DX R2 to M30's as well as the multitude of multi-mode drop-ins that are available from a variety of sources. With that large head, DD MCE's, as well as incans, should work without heat issues. My concept for a 3D host is about 0.5in. shorter than a current 2D Rebel M@G (shown below) . Has this been done already?
