Anyone ever opened up their Freeplay Summit radio to get at the 3 Nimh cells? I'm one for tearing things apart but there are no immediately obvious fasterners/screws visible on the thing. There are two black plastic/rubber pieces on the top and bottom and I suspect that one of them prys off to reveal screws. I don't want to mar up the finish before I know for sure.

If I had to guess, I'd bet it was the bottom one. The top one has the antenna running through it, and also may help restrain the solar panel. The bottom one has nothing going on. But looking at the design, it may be that both have to be removed before the two halves will separate...

But I'd recommend calling FreePlay customer service before starting to pry on random things:

I'm interested in what you find out, as mine is still working fine but eventually the battery will no doubt need replacement...

Mine if working fine also. I want to replace the 1300 mah Nimh's with Eneloops to gain capacity/runtime and Low Self Discharge. I emailed them.

Yes, the screws are underneath the black plastic pieces. If you gently remove them, you will be able to get to the screws.

So there we have it.
