From the "What were they thinking file?!?"

Both high maint.

CEO resigned, Jeep is toast.
Hold on!
Jeep just announced that they've paid an obscene amount of money to advertise during the Super Bowl. So yeah, putting all of their eggs into one basket for a desperate Hail Mary.

For that guy to decide to stop producing the entry level Ram 1500 was just plain stupid. And the Jeep pickup too? Even Ford isn't that stupid. GM is saying "when your enemy makes mistakes don't try to stop them".

I used to try to defend the big 3 versus foreign manufacturers but just can't anymore. Hell, I'm not a fan of their unions but know that if not for them the big 3 would prabably have everything made in China or Vietnam next door to the world's largest shoe factories. Worse: American's would buy them.

How unions view their members.

Jaguar, what were they thinking? :yellowlaugh:

If you hurry, you can still get in an order for the next new model CG. While you're in that Bob Villa mood, You might need to start adding a bay to your garage for this one;-) This is the best quote I've seen about it:

"I have a feeling @Jaguar may be about to find out that there are fewer well off non binary woke lesbians of colour than their echo chamber assured them there were," British Reclaim Party Leader Laurence Fox remarked.

My elderly mother back when she was a bit younger was forced to join a Union (1199) here in New York City in order to work as a Home health Care Aid. They robbed her of her paycheck every week, expected her to show up at Union rallies that were beyond ineffective. When she retired, they STILL send her mail to come to rallies. The worst part?....

She was entitled to a monthly stipend. It wasn't much but anything you get after Retirement due to Old Age is obviously going to help. Some bozo at the Union mistakenly assumed she was dead, without investigating. Stipend cut off! It was a nightmare getting it re-instated that took nearly a full year. Apparently it should have taken a few months less because they got the certified letter I mailed out to them. But a lazy, unprofessional piece of human garbage just never bothered to re-instate those benefits. Thankfully, eventually I managed to reach someone over at 1199 who actually cared! And, did her job the right damn way.

Mom got back everything she was owed, including her back benefits. Though honestly, it should not have taken as much effort as it did to fix the situation. A situation that never should have existed in the first place. Once every few years we get some greedy pig trying to Unionize all security personnel in NYC. Failure each time! Heck, the various security companies don't have to put in much effort if at all to persuade personnel from unionizing. A lot of guards only make Minimum Wage. They immediately say "No" when they realize just how much they are expected to have robbed out of their pay for Union dues. And, that's it. As for management? The turn-over rate in the industry is far worse than at Fast Food places. Don't like how management is treating you? Don't like your hours, or the client site? Quit! You can have a new security job with a different company literally the very next day!

I get it though. That's not how it works at other places. Greedy pigs in Management can only be stopped by greedy pigs in leadership roles at the Union. Both are disgustingly corrupt. But Unions will screw you over a bit more gently than Management does. Might even kiss you afterwards to make you feel special.

Awhile back, I signed back up to be my brother's In Home Support Services Provider in San Diego county as a backup for my sister for when she took vacations. Did not know they changed the rules that made it so it was not required at all to sign up for the union. They tricked me to signing up and said you'd only be charged dues if you made so many hours per month in a couple pay cycles in a row. Well I made a little in a course of about a week one time in the entire year which happened to be split between two pay periods. Also paid $38 for a background check to get the "job". The union charged me dues monthly for the year even though I made no money any other month. Had to write them a letter demanding my resignation from the union before they stopped trying to bill me. Never join a union.

It's the latest in Mary Kay car look.

New meaning for three on the tree.

The ridiculous New Zealand Navy Commander that sank a ship by being so hopeless that they couldn't recognise that manual navigation inputs weren't available while in auto pilot.
What's more ridiculous is the reaction of the NZ government (particularly from the minister of defence) and defence force, the complete lack of consequence and even defence of the negligent Commander.

Wake up Australia and New Zealand. This is yet another reminder, couldn't be more obvious than a sinking ship. The ANZACs are rolling over in their graves.

How about the Indian sub submerging with an open hatch?

Yep, Generation "U = Unaccountable" at work. Those chickens will come home to roost, and it won't be pretty.

Hello,

Ready to hear about another genius engineering marvel? You sure? You really sure?

Yesterday I got in my car and started it up and let it run for a little while. It was cold out so I turned the heat on ... or so I thought. What happened was there was no heat coming out of the vents no matter what the setting. It actually felt like the air conditioning was on. I had a friend turn the knob while I looked under the hood and listened for the air conditioner clutch mechanism that kicks in with a pretty loud clank when the AC compressor engages. That proved what I thought was true: the AC was turning on, not the heat. But all the knobs were in the right position so why would the AC come on. I figured there was something wrong with the heat/AC switch.

Today I get in the car and drive down the road. When I get to the store, I try the heat again. I get heat this time. I go into the store, but some food and stuff, come out to the car and drive away. I try the heat again, again very cold air.

I get home and look up the car manual. Well Lo and Behold, the car manual says that when you turn the heat on if the temperature outside is above 40 degrees F, the air conditioner comes on automatically.
WHAT ????????????????
So if the outside temperature is 41 degrees, I can't turn the heat on. That's still pretty cold so heat is needed inside the vehicle.

So, who was the genius engineer who decided to do that? If I pay $30k for a car and I turn the heat on when it's 45 degrees outside, I WANT THE HEAT TO FRIGGIN COME ON! Why wouldn't anyone want the heat to come on when it's that cold outside, I can't imagine anyone who would want that. And it's not just the heat that does not come on, the friggin air conditioner comes on!! So you get to freeze even more. Is that nuts or what?

What the heck is happening to this world?

The AC comes on in my car when I turn the defrost/heat on at first. It has something to do with keeping fog/condensation off the windshield more efficiently. I don't like it, but it does seem to work in most cases. Otherwise, when you first turn the defrost/heater on it fogs the windshield for a few minutes until the temperature inside of the car and the windshield are closer.

Every older car that I've owned always fogged up when I first turned the defrost/heater on. Takes longer to be able to drive safely.

Also, the high idle on modern cars drops when the engine temperature gets to an efficient/safe place. While older cars that I've own with carbs didn't do that until I tapped the accelerator or on even older ones that had a manual choke, I had to set the choke whenever I thought the car would stay running. Meanwhile, the windshield was fogged up.

Ok to start with when it's cold the air in the duct system is cold.
The heating system receives heat from warm coolant running through a pair of hoses that heat up a small radiator called a "heater coil" that a squirrel cage fan sucks air from and blows it to the air duct. The warm coolant comes from the engine once a certain temperature is reached and warm coolant is now circulating.
All of that takes time.

Now, for the AC at first, it is automatic when the system is set for windshield defrost to keep warm air from suddenly hitting cold glass.

All of that used to take place via mechanical parts. These days sensors galore dictate the changes that occur in the climate control system along with some things that are still mechanical.

bykfixer, you said it better than I did, but yes. LOL

I no longer live in a place where it gets cold. Foggy? Yes.

In high school I lived where it got too cold. My friend drove an old beetle and would sometimes pick a couple of us up on the way to school (18 miles away).
It never got warm enough to defrost the windshield. With all of us breathing in sub-zero temps the passenger had to use a scraper to get the frost off the inside of the windows.

Okay, I have to ask.... What do you drive that such silliness was part of the car's design.
