One of these super outdoor stores just opened today near me!!! So I thought I would go check it out. Mind you, Gaylens just opened up near me last year. Well let me tell you Gaylans has nothing on this Gander store. I went looking for flashlights and knives, man was I impressed! They have almost the entire line of Surefire: from the new bezel E2E to the M6. I ended up buying a black G2 for $34.00 and a Timberline Medium Worden Tactical knife. I love the G2. Since I don't EDC my E2 I like the G2 better. So coupled with my new EDC ARC-LSH-P I now have two lights I my be getting rid of in two days. I think I'm going to get rid of my E2 and my E1E and the KL1. I just like these two lights too much. Besides, I can't keep them all. Right? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Keep them all. Just get a bigger shelf -- like Size15s. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have a question, kodiak. What do you find attractive about the G2. They don't appeal to me, but then I've never seen one in person -- just pictures. Am I missing out on something?

Well let me try to put it in words..........
First, I don't carry this light in my pocket, so size is not an issue. I find the feel of the G2 preferable in my hand than the E2.
Second I think the hot spot is bigger and smoother into the transition of the spill light. IMO it has a much more pleasing beam from spot to outside spill. Mostly maybe (I've only had it for 2 hours) the bigger diameter gives me a better grip. Please no jokes /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Ofcoarse a LOTC would be even beter!

paul_w: i didn't really fancy the G2 either but after i got to handle one in person, i found i liked the feel of it. its hard to put words to it, but though plastic it feels very rigid and sturdy, and i prefer the feel of switch of the other surefire 2-cell lights to the E series switch which i find too stiff.

when i've got the cash to spare that'll be the next light i'm getting /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah. And I guess it would have a larger reflector, too. That might help with the smoothness of the beam. Thanks.

I know what you mean about the G2. I love mine, ok I love my wife and I really like my G2 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Please let me know if you decide to sell your E1e or E2.

Enjoy your G2.

well actually i find the E2 beam to be much smoother than the P60 beam, which usually tends to have a secondary hotspot in its hotspot which throws pretty far /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

kodiak,

Just out of curiosity, did you notice how much they were asking for the E2e?

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I just figured out I can use a P61 bulb! (120 lumins). Now I will get the spares carrier and have P60 and P61 and batteries. This is so much more versitile than the E2!

i've always found the P60/P61 based two-cell surefires to be more versatile and worthwhile than the E series...its the same reason why i carry a C2 instead of an E2e /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I got the guy to let me play with the M6 yesterday. I almost dropped over when I saw the large plexi display! No lamps though, for that matter I don't think they stock any stuff like that.

I went back to get a P61 lamp for my G2. They said they have just the P60 but keep checking back, for thier getting more.

I cant believe this! I was in that same store for over an hour yesterday. Humongous store! I somehow missed all of the Surefires. I did see the aisle with the garrity and M*glights. Where were the surefires?
I love that store!

The store in, Rochester N.Y, has the Surefire plexi-glass display is by the cutlery counter. Man what a selection!!

$74 for an E2e is a great price -- especially at a 'bricks and mortar' store (that's even a good price for online). My local sporting goods store wants full retail ($95).

67.99 for the E2e here. This is Rochesters first place to get SF lights. I called a police suply place last year and they told me I had to be a LEO to get a price/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

You can lock out the G2 with 1.5-2 CC revolutions of the BEZEL. I give it 2+ CCR to be safe. Despite this you are still better off with a LOTC for battery changes in the field, where losing the tailcap's innards is a distinct possibility.

The G2 has several advantages over the E2/E2e as well as the 6P and its siblings. The P60 beam is brighter and more focused than the MN03's and the P61 maintains the P60's brightness over a significantly larger area. (Neither comes close to the focused throw of the three brightest, longest-throwing 2x123 currently available: the Asp Taclite, TACM III and the Pelican M6. All three derive their brightness/CP through relatively narrow beams).

The G2, at 4oz loaded is the the second lightest "standard" size 2x123 light. The lightest is the TACM III at 3.8oz loaded. The G2's patterned Nitrolon body remains warmer to the touch and easier to hold onto in cold weather than aluminum bodied lights. The difference to bare hands is significant.
