does anybody know how to get inside the garrity 1w headlamp
I would like to mod it with a cree but seems to be shut tight.
any help would b great. It is the model that has the single 1w three 5mm and two red 5mm.

if you are talking http://www.garritylites.com/page567.html#

I would be very interested, since this is About my favorite lamp.

I would bet that the beam would be crappy if you drop a cree or seoul without changing reflector. I find that not changing these, while brighter, actually a step down in useful lux.

This lamp is very integrated and not a simple star drop.

While I have been lugging mine around in a toolbox since fall 2005, most guys that throw it in bottom of trunk tend to destroy theirs in about 6 months.

I may keep mine entact, just to benchmark future lights against, as the lux to beat.

Actually, if you shave a little off the back of the stock reflector the beam stays the same with a ssc, just gets brighter.

Lazercrazy, did you mod this light with a ssc? And how? I cracked mine open, looked like no star.

How did you shave the back off reflector?

Yes, I did mod mine with an SSC P4. You have take the little heatsink out to get to the actual star. (2 little screws) As for the reflector, I used a x-acto knife to remove the small lip on the back of it.

hi flashburn72 - The front of the garrity unscrews 1/8th turn then use a
sharp flathead screwdriver to pry the front off.

note my heatsink mod: added 3 pennies to it to sink more heat - haha!
