Just got back from Bakersfield. The Wal-Mart there was selling the 3-D Garrity Stainless Steel Flashlight w/alkaline batteries for $4.00! I bought 3 of them. Any other Wal-Marts doing it? The beam seems OK, and the big head would be perfect for all sorts of mods.

The walmarts here in Georgia have the light, but its at least $12 or $13 here...will have to go look, great mod light. I've looked at it before...

I picked one up for about $11.00 a couple weeks ago. It had a good feel and thought it a good 'donor' for some modding. Major downfall is that the head of the light is all plastic. This would likely create a potential heatsinking nightmare for any LS applications. Would be interested in seeing any mods you come up with..

I have the 4AA and 2D versions. The 4AA is essentially a 1D version with a 4AA adapter. The adapter is a bit wider than a standard D-Cell and wonn't fit into a Mag-Lite. I put two 4AA adapters inside the 2D and overdrove a 6.0 volt KPR bulb. It is extremely bright. I haven't kept the light on for a long time, don't know hold well the lens and plastic will hold up.

Ratso,

Are you sure you use 6 cell bulb in stead of 6 volt bulb? 8AA will be 8x 1.6 volt=12.8 volt.

I am driving a 6 cell (9 volt) Magnum Star with 8 NiMh with very good result. The 5 Cell bulb burned right away when batts are fresh.
