Getting goofy trying to select next light....

Hi,

Trying to decide on the next light, have a Ray O Vac 4w/3c coming in but I'm wanting another and I'm suffering from what I call "supermarket syndrome." I just fine myself staring at too many products at DX and Kai.

I'm getting goofy trying to choose a light. I have the parameters down pretty well....

For $50 max, I'd like the brightest 1x or 2x AA around that has excellent throw and "decent" spill. But brightness and throw are more important than spill.

Too further narrow it down, a clicky is mandatory; hi/lo is desireable but not mandatory.

Here's where I'm at at this point. Have you ever just stood and stared (for way too long) at a supermarket shelf trying to decide which brand of cereal, toothpaste, canned corn or whatever the hell it is you need to buy?

I try not to do it but I fall into it sometimes. I watch for it in others too when shopping and believe me, "product paralysis" is a very prevalent supermarket syndrome.

C'mon guys, help me out here.

Thanks,

Mike

Fenix L1T v2.0 RB80
Fenix L2T v2.0 RB80
The L2T is brighter on turbo but the L1T is a lot easier to keep with you at all times.
Make sure you do NOT get the luxeon versions of the L1T or L2T. There are a lot of them still floating around both v2.0 and v1.0.

Most of the lights from DX are crap. My 1st one (HF-1 Cree AAA) worked intermitently then died within a week. My 2nd one (MTE SSC AA) worked as recieved (there were posts that fixes were required on the 1st batch) but is 1/4 inch longer than my Fenix L1P or 1/2" longer than my Civictor V1. Guess which light I keep in my pocket? (The shortest, not the brightest!) My 3rd one (Ultrafire WF 602c SSC AAA/10440) would not work with half the batteries I got (fit problem). And Ensanada had intermittent problems when using his with NiMH/alkalines even after he trimmed the spring. Not all people who got a bad light fron DX will post so buyer beware.

Since you already have a big bright light incomming, I think the smaller L1T v2.0 RB80 is a better complement.

Thanks guys,

It's looking like the Fenix L2T v2.0 RB80 for me.

I do have a few questions you Fenix L2T v2.0 RB80 owners can answer though.

I thought I read somewhere that it came with two tail switches but I can't find where I read this. Does it come with two tail switches and if so, what do they do?

If I was wrong and it only comes with the one switch, I have read the switch has a "momentary "tac" switch and a regular "on/off" switch. Correct?

How does this work? Partial push on the switch for momentary light and full push until it clicks for constant power?

From what I read in the Fenix description, a twist of the bezel results in a change from high beam to low beam, correct?

Does the initial click start on the high or low beam? Does it have a memory, meaning can you set it to either the high or low beam to come on with the initial click?

Last question, does Fenix or anyone else make a remote pressure switch, like the one pictured below, for the Fenix L2T v2.0 RB80?

Again, thanks for your time and patience,

I can answer all but the last question.

Thanks guys,

It's looking like the Fenix L2T v2.0 RB80 for me.

I do have a few questions you Fenix L2T v2.0 RB80 owners can answer though.

Q: I thought I read somewhere that it came with two tail switches but I can't find where I read this. Does it come with two tail switches and if so, what do they do?

A: It does come with two tailcap switches. One is the normal Fenix reverse clicky. The other is the tactical clicky.

Q: If I was wrong and it only comes with the one switch, I have read the switch has a "momentary "tac" switch and a regular "on/off" switch. Correct?

Q: How does this work? Partial push on the switch for momentary light and full push until it clicks for constant power?

A: It is a momentary clicky. Soft half push for momentary on. Full push till clicks for constant on.

Q: From what I read in the Fenix description, a twist of the bezel results in a change from high beam to low beam, correct?

A: This is correct. A twist to the left results in high, and a twist back to the right results in low.

Q: Does the initial click start on the high or low beam? Does it have a memory, meaning can you set it to either the high or low beam to come on with the initial click?

A: Depends on which side you have the bezel turned to if it is high or low with the initial click. When you turn the bezel it stays in the mode it was in, even after it is off, and then turned back on. Yes, you can set it to either come on in high or low.

Q: Last question, does Fenix or anyone else make a remote pressure switch, like the one pictured below, for the Fenix L2T v2.0 RB80?

A: This one I don't know.

bondr006,

Thanks for those very explicit answers. You told me EXAXCTLY what I asked and needed to know.

I'll ask Fenix about the pressure switch and post what I find out here.

Thanks again,

Mike
