I'm a Correctional Officer in a county jail and need a decent bright small light for carrying on my duty belt. Also needs to be affordable since there is a good chance that it will be dropped and rolled on at least a few times. Thanks everyone, new here and looking forward to meetin some interesting people.

There are several active threads on lights for LEOs right now. I assume their needs would be similar to yours.

Also what do you use now? In what ways would you like to improve on that? (Brighter, longer running, more durable, smaller...?) Do you have preferred batteries? (Rechargeable? Provided on the job?)

E.g:

PS- welcome from another newbie.

I've noticed that a lot of people new to lights mention that it has to be cheap because it might be dropped and stuff. But the thing is that most decent lights handle drops and being kicked/dragged around fine. Only damage would be cosmetic and have pretty much no effect on the performance.
You probably won't be replacing the light once in a while because you somehow broke it by dropping it somewhere.

In your line of work, Fenix and Inova are the cheapest I would go. I don't mean to assume I know exactly what the light will go through, but an Inova T2 or a Fenix TK-10 should suvive just fine.

First a few questions to help us pick:

Price range?
Output?
Batteries?
Runtime?
Multimode(low, medium, high, strob and so on) or no?
Beam pattern?

I would say go with what bagman mentions, but if you want to go quality at it's lowest cost, then maybe you could get the incan G2, which goes for $36. Also, that G2 must be OK, because a lot of soldiers are using that one model now in the field. But if you can go with an LED or G2L ($65) model, I would do that just because of the hours and strength of the LED SureFire G2L. In your line of work, IMO I would consider getting the SureFire 6P Defender ($74) at a minimum, which has the crenellated strike bezel, in case you want the added benefit of using your light to tear a chunk out of a convicts face while he is blinded. Better yet, the LED model of that one is the 6PDL for $100.

Good luck and stay safe.

:) FloridaCO ,

Please consider this $30.00 light (member thread) for your uses. I think it will suit your needs.

Reviewed here ............ Sold here at ShiningBeam.com

It's a nice light , good med. spot beam , has pretty good throw , uses 18650 battery for about 3 hours run time , Hi-Med-Low-Strobe with memory of last used level , built well , the price is right , and comes with a FREE pair of nice sunglasses , arrives in just a few days from N.York , ya just can't go wrong .

And NO..... I'm not associated with the seller , I just ordered his light and am satisfied with it - enough to suggest it to you for consideration.

P.S. > Portezbie .... LEO is Law enforcement officer . ( I live in Fla. / thanks for keepin em under control FloridaCO)
