Anyone have any actual experience with Harbor Fright's GORDON 20-in-1 Multi-Tool? When it comes to hand tools, I'm not much on the El-Cheapo (knuckle buster) lines, nonetheless I've heard nothing but good regarding these. There's no HF store near me so firsthand inspection is impossible. BTW, I'm thinking of getting one for my Grandson. He's at that age where he's getting into fixing things and using tools.

First, let me say that I do not have experience with Harbor Freight tools. Second, my impression, based largely on the company name, is that these are foreign made, i.e., not made in USA products, likely made in Communist China.

Why not start your grandson out with a quality, genuine made in the USA Leatherman Tool multi-tool? I have a Leatherman Juice S2, and I consider the quality very good. But don't take my word for it, check out their website for yourself.

For the cost of tools at Harbor Frieght you get decent results. Don't expect precision like German made or extra heavy duty like a Craftsman and you won't be let down. Good starter tools for a kid until he shows he's willing to take care of them.

The one in post #1 looks like a Leatherman Wave clone. You might consider a Gerber Dime keychain multitool or a SwissTech 22n1.

The cool thing about the Swiss Tech is when folded up the pliers wrap around a keychain ring. I have carried a Swiss Tech 6n1 for over a decade and it works well for minor repairs.

I have not used the gordon, but I think I would be more inclined to get a used Leatherman Blast or maybe a fuse off of ebay instead.

Because the Gordon is one third the price of the Leatherman Wave and is surprisingly comparable in performance and quality. Here is a review;

Also, for someone who waves the made in America flag, Tim Leatherman is an anti 2A asshole.

Honestly not worth it. You're better off with a less expensive Gerber Suspension-NXT model, instead. As far as HF in general.... Yes on their Hercules line of power-tools. Maybe on certain tools. But no on most of the stuff they sell, unless you like cheap junk. (Definitely stay away from the cheapest Bauer drill they offer.)
