If anyone has seen old X-Files shows, you might have seen this light. It's called the Maxa Beam Searchlight and it has 6 million candlepower. You can buy it at
http://www.southwestpublicsafety.com/maxbeammilcp.html

but if you ask me, $1,800.00 is just a wee bit too much considering you can get a 3 million candlepower spotlight for $40

I dream of owning one of them one day. Someone once mentioned thy sell on Ebay now and then for about $1200. I`ve never seen them there. Forever keeping my fingers crossed that I`ll find one for under a grand, and at a time when I`ve finally paid off my credit card bill so can afford to buy one. Won`t be for ages and ages I expect. But one day it will happen, I just know it will.

Can't let this one slip by.... The MAxa Beam is a HID short arc xenon. Now that I own the McCulloch X990, I can tell you that having this kind, and amount of light, is crazyness. WAY TOO MUCH for ordinary, daily around the house activities.

Outdoors, is a whole different ballgame. Sorry, the 1 and 2mil cp spotlights are no comparison to an hid. Every other night I am out shooting video of the X990, comparing it with all the brands of spotlights, and there is no comparison.

The major difference is color temmperature. Just a tidbit of information here, but the SureFire Beast uses a Phillips D2s 35 watt bulb, same as the McCulloch. Though rated at 3000 lumens, SureFire has measured the output to be just over 2000 lumens

I know it is! But I don`t care. More light, dammit

. And occasionally I`ll find myself in an attic or basement with no lighting, or no power- and even my trusty 9N isn`t quite enough light. (I`m scared of spiders....

I`ll try to get hold of a McCulloch X990 too, hopefully before the end of this year. Don`t think the SureFire Beast will ever join the ranks here though, that one looks extroadinarily pricey. So much metalwork....

The MaxaBeam can focus to a very tight spot - tighter then the X990 can, and tighter then the Beast is designed.

I had a look at a MaxaBeam at the SHOT Show - it was too heavy.

But we have the desire for lights with this kind of output. Even (especially?) if we don't need it!

Will I ever be happy? Well if the M6 had a 500Lu half degree beam, and the Beast had a 2000Lu half degree beam... perhaps.

$1800 for the Maxa Beam, $whoknowshowdamnmuch for the Hellfire or Beast.

Pshaw.

Do they take a check?

BTW, Mr. Bear, you're really making it hard not to justify a X990. That's all my wife needs to hear now. "What, another flashlight?!"
