I just ordered my Quark AA^2 R5 from 4sevens. Unfortunately it's on back order till next week. My main light has been a Dorcy k2 160 Lumen 3xAAA. It seems pretty bright with fresh cells. Please tell me the Quark will pummel this Target clearance Dorcy.

It should be brighter but may not pummel it - at least looking at the two on fresh cells. But it will provide that brightness for a much longer time. It is a much better light.

Not only do two AA cells have more capacity than 3 AAA cells (about double) but the circuit provides regualation so that the brightness does not dim over time like the 3AAA light will. The light is a big improvement. AA cells give many options these days. This should provide impressive runtime on two AA Energizer lithium cells. You should be able to find 8 packs at reduced prices at some stores.

The Target special might be direct drive.

Sometimes you can mod 3xaaa light to use 1 18650 instead, but you if it is DD you could roast the emitter without some resistance.

You are going to be blown away so bad by the Quark that you are going to end up spending another couple hundred dollars just so you can have "spares" or "extras"... I am certain of this!

Yeah, its almost worrying me. Co workers tell me its only a flashlight... I'm like uhh it has a user interface and around 8 modes of operation. I work at a computer shop as a tech and I told the guy that's like me telling you this rack mounted server with 32 Gb of ram running two quad xeons with a raid 10 with battery backup cache is just a computer. He just shook his head and walked away.

I already have my eye on either a tk40 or an a6 and a couple eos A2's.

You're so gonna get floored by the quark and it seems that ur well on the way to being infected by this weird light disease. :twothumbs

go for a Tk40, it will amaze you i went on youtube and saw a few real world uses of the TK40 and i now want one even though i have no use at all for one, it is one fantastic light.

If durability is an issue, do a search here for "TK40 torture test" and you will see one of the most comprehensive torture tests on a light that i have ever seen.

every time i use one of my better flashlight i smile, you will too when you use your quark.

I have a Quark AA r5 that I run on 14500. I honestly dont know of much that can beat them on quality, runtime, regulation, and brightness. If there is such a light, that beats it, please let me know!

If you planned on running 14500 with the AA-2, I dont think you can unless you swap the head out for the 123-2. Just somthing to consider.

I disagree, youtube videos are disappointing compared to real-world use!

Congratulations on becoming a Flashaholic! :)

You also might want to wait a little while for the Fenix TK45 to come out. It looks like a very different light than the TK40, but it's yet another AA powered option that you might want to consider.

You will be amazed by the sheer maximum power of the Quark compared to the mere mortal *Target clearance Dorcy*. HA! Double HA! The " Target clearance Dorcy" will tremble with fear at the mere audacity of stepping into the greatness that was fashioned by one of the holders of the light, the mighty Quark AA^2 R5. HA! It is a shrine, a bearer of photons, an instrument so powerful, so infused w/ the power of light that the "Target clearance Dorcy" will kneel before Zod. KNEEL! HA! Double HA! Pay homage to David Chow when you have this light in hand...burn alms and incenses whose fire will only mock the sheer brightness of the Mighty Quark! Triple HA! HA!

so:naughty: is that what you wanted to hear;)

:p

I agree. For constant light output I read Selfbuilt's reviews and took a serious look at the EagleTac P100A2/P10A2 which has one of the best runtimes for an AA-based light as its head is designed specifically for the voltage of AA's. I considered buying one myself, but opted for the Quark AAx2 Tactical R5 instead as it's more versatile with 5 brightness levels instead of just 2 on the EagleTac, and it has a bigger spot and more spill than the EagleTac which I wanted too. As a bonus, with the newer R5 emitter the Quark has more light output and basically the same runtime as the R2 in the EagleTac models. Gotta like that.

That's correct, the input voltage of the AAx2 head is 0.9-4.2v so two 14500 would overload the head with 7.4v. Not that it would make any difference as the light output would still be the same at 206 lumens. For smaller size, the Quark AA can take a 14500 and it would have the same output level at 206 lumens as the larger AAx2.

I'm a happy camper with my AAx2 light.
:D

Any Youtube videos that you can recommend of the TK40 that are good?

oh, i undoubtedly agree with that, but if the video was enough to impress, then the real world use (if and when i get one) would be even more impressive wouldnt it?

I just did a search for Fenix TK40 and watched everything that came up.

Yea? But can it run CounterStrike? How about AOL?

Whats a battery backup cache?

Not to get too far off topic. A battery backup cache is an optional chip that can be installed in servers. It is for the raid controller. The raid controller takes multiple hard drives and can turn them into a virtual single drive with redundancy depending on the raid you choose. Since your splitting data accross an Array of drives if you loose power randomly or your uniteruptable power supply fails you wont corrupt your data. The battery backup cache will store the information that is in the middle of being transfered so you can fire your machine back up and not have to worry about data loss from data corruption.
