Whew! I just finished splitting a batch of 223's and wrapping the fruits of my labor. What a pain!

Anyway, I read the thread on splitting 223's and found it very helpful. However, I found myself not wanting to create a mess by sawing the cap off the bottom of the battery. Instead, I found that by using a good knife I could cleanly slice the bottom off (I take no responsibility for anyone who cuts their finger off!

) I also found that by removing the metal strap from the exposed negative side while the batteries are still in the case, you completely remove the chance of sparking them during removal.

I hope these tips may help others. Thank you for your help.

Sounds good Laynlow, do you have a picture to show just where and how, it seems a bit difficult to do.

MC,

Sorry, I did not take any pictures of the seam. It is pretty visible if you are looking at a battery. Although it looks like a cap, it is fused with the body of the battery and that is why slicing the end off with a knife worked the best for me.
