Yeah, the things one does in the middle of buggery in outback Australia.

Go and drill a few holes and then fill them with 45 watt 5000k bulbs.
This light is essentially the light that Sway grabbed his fancy famous piccy from. A Lightforce 240 Blitz.

Silicon is still drying right now (10:30pm Wednesday). Will turn on one of these nights and take pics and video. With and without spread covers.

Yes, light pattern is gonna be dreadful. I dont care. I have yet to see anyone ever do this before. Yes it will be a tad bit warm in there. A single 130 watt halogen bulb in the open air runs at around 580 to 600 degrees centigrade. A 100 watt bi-pin halogen which comes with these lights runs at around the 550 degree mark at 12 volts.
(Bump it up to 18v and they ignite paper from a few inches... find that torch video that floated around a few years ago.)
A 45 watt HID runs at 130 degrees. Times that by 5...

Hello bushy555
You are a true maverick. It has been said it is hard to get rid of lumans.
The beam will be wide and unique. Can't wait for some shots.

Dave:)

I'm looking forward to the beamshots too. It will definitely be producing a lot of lumens. If this works out, are you going to make another one and mount both of them on your vehicle?

I was looking at your other pictures on Putfile. It looks like you have a lot of experience with LightForce and HIDs and modding them. Do you have the 50 watt LightForce HIDs? I am curious how well those work.

Regards,
Mark

no unfortunately I don't, and have yet to see their 50w in action. Their 35w original HID's were fairly ordinary.

The first kit I threw into a Blitz was in November 05 - have done heaps and heaps since then. I have been throwing 55 watt kits into both the 240 Blitz and XGT lights for quite a while now. Nice entry level spotlight for the front of 4wd's I reckon.
Two 5000k 55's in a pair of XGT's mounted on my roof out did four 35w 6000k in Blitz's mounted on my bullbar. (Yep, had all six mounted on me ute for a test at one stage)

Coupla vids of various tests:

I need a lot more for better comparisons...

*newsflash* ...I got bored again. So I drilled another two holes and filled them. 7 bulbed Lightforce Blitz. Am hoping to get home shortly, set it all up and to turn her on. 70 odd amp startup current draw now... I am hoping it to last long enough so that I can get some still shots and video in before it all starts to melt.

Around the 290 to 300 watt mark by my calculations.

Quick 14 second vid of the bulbs in the lens.

LOL!

What is that black gunk on the back of the reflector? Is it some sort of sealant?

Please video this when you first use it, all the way through from first switching on to the arrival of the Fire Department, lol.

I just watched the video and that thing is calling out for two more bulbs! It must be symmetrical!

Please get some beam shots and video when you fire up the InsaneBlitz.

Regards,
Mark

Black gunk is just plain old black silicon sealant, holding the bulbs in place.
And I ran out of bulbs so unfortunately couldnt add another two.

Yes, it was pathetic light output, and yes she started to melt after around 5 or 6 mins of running with everything on.
Was done between 8:00pm thru to 10-ish Saturday night.
