First impressions.....Comes in a nice case, 2 batteries is a plus. Seems beefy and well made...heavy but balances in my hand well, nice carry strap. I am glad mine didnt come with the chromed head like the picture on the box showed, mine is all black and stealthy!!

Now I wait on nightfall so I can compare with my first and only other HID, my Boxer 24W.

Did I read someplace that there might be a Lithium battery in the works for the X990?

Hey congrats on you newly acquired Acro X990 HID hivoltage! Did you also check out the other links posted on your original thread regarding wanting to light up trees?

Enjoy!

You read correct. The best thing about the lithium batteries is they aren't as heavy as the Ni-MH.

P.S. you're Boxer is going to be toasted. In a matter of fact, all of the lights in your sigline combined can't take on a Acro X990. :grin2:

There's a 150lb magnetic gripping base for the Acro X990 HID if may at times need to place this on, say your vehicle. To me that comes in quite handy. It simply attaches to the base of the Acro's battery.

WOW, this baby IS a bright SOB:lolsign: I walked out to our road and lit up our neighbors mailbox like it was daylight and it is at least 1/8 mile from us. I could easily light up an owl in the farthest tree in view from my house. This light is definately a keeper. I think my Boxer will take residense under the seat in my car. I just hate to get rid of it. It is not so impressive after having them both lit in in the dark together, but thats not fair to my boxer!!

About the lithuims batteries, the best thing is they dont drain themselves over time like NiMi or NiCads. I would sure invest in a set of lithiums if they ever become available.

Whats Next???? Besides my Gatlight 3 which is already paid for.!!!!

I'm glad that you're so excited about it. Glad it came in all black too. See....we did you right!!:)

As for the lithiums, don't get your hopes up. I've made several calls attempting to verify these claims and there are no plans for any to ever be produced. At this time it's really only an unsupported rumor. Too bad, I'd love to have lithiums for mine too.

Congrats on the new equipment.
I am seriously considering this one myself, as I haven't bought a new HID in years and feel the urge to get something better than my UK Lightcannon.
Don't keep the neighbors up all night!

For those of you who own the Acro X990, how long after full recharge does the battery last before it drains itself?

Mine are completely drained and inoperative after about four months. Once I charged my batteries in June and left to go hunting in September. Both batteries still operated for about 15 minutes. And yes, I was stupid and forgot to charge them before I left. :sssh:

Thanks for reminding me to charge mine again. That is the hardest thing about all these lights. Guess I'm gonna set up a dedicated calendar to document my various lights, and when I charged them.

You're welcome Lux.

It just occurred to me that the X990 batteries shelf drain at slightly less than 1% per day. That's not to horrible considering the way that some folks bag on them. I live in a warmer climate too.

Note that the 1% per day figure is optimistic and for new batteries. Mine are nearly two years old and if not recharged weekly, the runtime (I admit I did not measure it) is disappointingly short, like 10 to 15 minutes. This is what happens I suppose, with aging NiMH batteries. My x990 is still a wonderful light, which when it first arrived drove me outside in pajamas and a winter coat to test it. I have a stronger HID but in practical terms, the difference is not huge.

I too would like to see some lithium rechargables, but I have heard on this Forum it is not to be.

Enjoy,

HAK

Hello HAK,

It sounds like your batteries have dead cells in them.

My X990 is also around 2 years old. My spare battery pack developed a bad cell and I could only get around 40 minutes of run time. My main pack has held very well.

I had my extra pack rebuilt and am just breaking it in.

Just ran some tests. My two year old main pack runs the X990 for about 72 minutes. My brand new rebuilt pack runs for about 57 minutes.

I store my packs about half full and do a charge/discharge cycle roughly every 60 days if I am not using the light. The pack that died was weak from the very start, we will have to see how the rebuild holds up.

Dear SilverFox,

Who did the rebuild on your pack? Sounds like you have described the problem correctly, and I should do the same thing, as I really like the X990 otherwise.

Thanks,

HAK

Hmmm - perhaps I have a cell issue as well in one (or both) of my packs. Seems that I get horrible runtime after it has sat unused for a month. That is the one thing I don't like about the battery packs. There was talk of a Lithum-Ion retrofit - I think the X990 uses sub sized cells BTW.

The only other HID I have is the RayzorLite - not as bright (in standard mode) and less throw than the X990, but it has Lithiums which makes it handy for storage purposes.
