I've taken baby home and played with it for a while.
As before, my conclusions are mine and mine alone and I'm sticking to them. Also, this gizmo and that doodad for measuring output isn't in my toolbox. Not that they aren't important but I don't use my lights with them attached and some electronic thing can't measure heft, aesthetics, color or beauty.
I really do like this accessory but on the E2 and not the E2e. Curiously, the owners pamphlet only mentions the EXe series and not the originals. That's too bad because the light works best, IMHO, on the E2. My E2 has the LOTC and with the KL1, the only thing the E2e gives you is the body clip instead of the bezel attachment of the E2. Not such a great loss.
Any time I've pick up my SF lights, I always have to rotate them in my hand to get the clip in "that part" of my hand where it feels best. Also, SF points out that the tail cap switch is correct placement because you always know where it is no matter how you pick up the light. This is more than amply demonstrated by the KL1 and the E2. It truly is "always correct" placement. For me, this makes up 10 fold for the loss of the clip.
On to the beam itself. I don't have the equipment to scan beam shots but I'd describe it as follows: The beam itself is whiter than my ARC LE 3.1 but there is a slight purple/blue tint. It gives great color rendition. The beam pattern is very good for general use, walking the dog, going out in the backyard and most any other utilitarian use you might have. At 25 feet, the beam has a core hot spot about 4-5' in diameter with a very smooth fade out to the perimeter. It gives great peripheral light and has the SF flawless beam quality.
Compared to the MNO2 that I wrote about on the SFDB, this light very well could replace it. Although the MNO2 has it beat in terms of volume of light, the KL1 is your girlfriend's sister that you'd secretly like to date. The MN throw is much farther with a whiter light but unless you need it, you'd never feel compromised with the KL1.
I also tried it on my E1 and although it's impressive and works well, it's hard for me to have a $100 light that I leave in my center console. It makes the E1 fit in my hand a tad better by adding a little more overall length. I can see where some people might use this as their EDC and it would fit that role just fine. For me, I think I'll keep it on the E2. The E2 seems to be a better home and the KL1 on the E1 gives me a funny feeling like this is a small car with a small gas tank and the E2 is the big car ready to go on a long trip.
Finally, the KL1 and E2 will sit by the front door. Although HA is tough, I still like to take care of my lights and sitting on a table it's going to become bezel scratched. Or is it? I found that if you remove the insert from an Ex filter or beamshaper, the rubber shroud fits perfectly on the KL1 without compromising beam quality.
This is a great accessory and component of the Ex system that is a must have.
