hey im looking for a true hid flashlight (not the hid LIKE flashlights i want the ones that warm up and everything) for fairly cheap. i dont really want to spend 300 bucks for one im really looking for one under $150. im sorta also looking for area lighting not necessarily spot lighting but would be nice to have the ability to use spot lighting. right now i see two on ebay that i may want to get

but please do suggest other ones that are good. ive been searching around and it looks like theres on from costco that was decent but i dont see it on costcos website anymore. id appreciate if someone could help me to find a nice bright hid flashlight.

Re: in search of an hid flashlight

:welcome:

These are both well known and good lights. I think you'll be happy with either but the first one is probably going to be more handy because of it's smaller size. The one in your second link is quite big but the beam will throw a bit farther. Both lights will throw light many hundred yards.

Let us know what you end up with.

thanks for the welcome!
so would the first one be a better floodlight than the second one? its hard to tell sizes by pictures is the second one alot bigger than the first?

Hi Gallo!

The first light would give output like this:

The second light would give output simular to this:

Both not that much flood. To get a more floody spot you probably need to spend more money.

Re: in search of an hid flashlight

hm well i purchased the first one for 64 dollars i thought that was a pretty good deal if its not what im looking for then ill be on the look out for another one. what about the n30? is that more spot light than flood light? im actually interested in trying to find an x990 cause well you can make it flood or spot light and it uses the bulb that most cars today use so id assume it would make a great flood light.

Re: in search of an hid flashlight

Search for the N30 comparisons, there are several. That's the light I was initially going to recommend...

I think you made a good choice. The other light is so big that it's pretty cantankerous for most applications. The N30 is smaller and has a better color temperature than the Sam's but it's more than double the price that you paid.

The X990 is a little brighter than the N30 imo, can be adjusted to a floodier beam, but a new one is $369 with the CPF discount. I didn't know you were looking in that price range.

If you're interested contact Rob at Magnalite or use code "CPF30" (without the quotes) to get the $369 deal. Also keep an eye in the CPF Marketplace because they do come up for sale sometimes.

ooo did not realize they were that expensive. yeah that is beyond my price range. ill see how this does for the time being it seems like a bang for the buck.

Re: in search of an hid flashlight

well i just got it today and first impressions is wow! considering this is really my first "big" flashlight its truely amazing how bright it is. I have a maglight and a brookestone windup led flashlight which is surprisingly bright for a wind up flash light and this hid flash light blows both of them out of the water. here are some pics of it

i love it :D tho its not really the floodlight i was looking for i think itll be okay for the time being.

here are some new pics this is compared to my 5 led brookstone flashlight which i thought used to be bright, not anymore.

Congrats Gallo! You sound very pleased. Compared to the old maglite it's a whole new world isn't it...lol. Well, you made a really good buy on that and it should be putting a smile on your face for some time to come. If you decide that you really need flood out of your light, you could always frost the glass or sputter the reflector. You could even get a second light and leave on of them stock and turn the other into a flood monster.

Thanks for the pics and video. It's always neat to have someone follow up their purchase with some pics and a review.

so can i buy a lens or i guess make one that fits over this one to spread the light around? interesting i may do something like that do you have any links about it?

just take a piece of glad press-n-seal and cut it out to fit, press it to the front of the lens, instant portable flood work-lamp. I use mine as a portable worklight with the press-n-seal all the time.

Good job on the HID. Great way to start with a bang.

LEDs have also come a long way from the 5mm LEDs used in the Brookstone. 30 Lumen(max) from the Brookstone vs the current gen LEDs(Up to 230 lumen if you don't overdrive).

yeah i didnt think the led flashlight was that bad at all
http://www.brookstone.com/store/pro...oss_flag=y&cm_sp=Exit*Crosssell*1&prodtemp=t1

thats the one i was comparing to. floodlight wise its the same as my big maglite but spot light the maglight wins since you cant focus the led one.
the brookstone light uses some giant magnification for those leds.
