And I have to agree with everyone else - for $19.99 at Wally World these lights are a GREAT bargain. I went ahead and got two - one is now in my wife's car (globe compartment), the one one is for me to play with (my car has an Inova X0 already).

Yep for the price...ya can't go wrong /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Got mine in my truck, and I'm not worried if it gets all beat to hell.....also lend it out to friends to keep my other lights next to me where they belong.

Aloha

I got one for myself on Saturday, too. I generally prefer LED flashlights, but even for me the Maxfire has its place as a simple, bright, lightweight, tough flashlight that emits a smooth beam and that I won't be afraid to damage or lose.

If I remember other people's reviews correctly, the Maxfire is the first of the "cheap" 2x123A incandescent flashlights that doesn't have major shortcomings (if you don't count the Surefire G2).

I removed the rubber grips and bezel ring from mine...more "tactical". what a deal for 20 bucks! plus, do as indicated on flashlightreviews.com, and put some real batteries in it. It makes a huge difference!

You guys are lucky. I keep checking our local WalMarts and still haven't found a Brinkmann Maxfire in either one.

I'd be willing to pick one up at Walmart, adjust the bulb so its centered, put the batteries in and mail it to anyone in the US for a total of $23.50 for first class, or 25.50 for priority. This would be without the plastic that it came in though, to save space.

I just tried my new BugOutGearUSA 3W LED replacement module and it works great on my Maxfire - no mods required.

Please let us know how that 3w LED module holds up in that Nitrolon body. BugOutGearUSA stated that it's ok to run it continuous for about 30 min in the Surefire G2 before it starts getting pretty hot. I assume it's the same situation with the Maxfire. No metal body to dissipate heat from the module.

Thanks for that good news.

I can tell you first hand that you can run the 3W LED drop-in in the Maxfire for extended runtime with no significant heat problems. It gets a bit warm after about an hour using 2 SF123's. If using a Pila 168s, even less heat.(Draws about 250 mAh) I have been playing with this setup (Maxfire/3W drop-in/168s) extensively with a lot of continuous runtime and it is awesome!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Very little heat buildup, long runtime (still running the 168s on the charge it came with). This is a remarkable combination, almost as bright as my 6P, VERY white and near perfect beam pattern with decent throw.

How is the output of the 3W LED drop-in compared to the stock incan?

What's the longest you've operated the LED continuous in the Maxfire? I'm most concerned about the effect of the heat on the LED module life, not the temperature on the outside of the light body.

I'll be watching closely how these modules hold up in Maxfire and the G2.

Thanks for the info socom1970.

As far as the output goes, I would say it is very close to the 6P by my own eyes. The 6P has 65 lumens according to spec. I have read that the drop-in LED has 30 lumens. I have also read that it is more like 35 to 40 lumens. Either I won the lottery or they're all like this because mine is almost identical in brightness to my 6P. I would rough guess it to be about 50 to 55 lumens. As far as how long continuously, I have turned it on and set it down sideways on my computer desk while I am on the computer for over an hour. When I checked it, the outside was barely warm and the module was warm but not uncomfortable at all to hold. I am using this module extensively because of my work and also because of the Pilas (rechargeable) so I can play and test it to my hearts content.

Kinda weird but I got my 3W LED drop ins today but didn't get my G2's that I had ordered at the same time. I read this thread and ran to Walmart to pick up a Brinkmann. I lucked out and they have the LX at my local Walmart. Man, turns out this is a nice light for 20 bucks and with the LED drop-in, it becomes a great light!! I now have my new "work light". Glad I read this thread!!!! Thanks guys! Doug /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Looks like I'll be saving money for one of these 3W modules for my Maxfire. Thanks socom.

Great, I've been to two Wallyworlds near me and I haven't found one yet. Ones down the street and ones 1 mile away. Depressing,
