Recieved my new Inova T1 from BatteryJunction yesterday.

Initial thoughts: Same quality you have come to expect from the Inova T series. Tank-like build, "quality gear" comes from every pore. Really, the only differences externally from the older versions are the lack of silver bezel ring (which was removed for tactical reasons, but I liked it; it looked great) and the new reflector instead of TIROS.

The T1 is very bright; way, way brighter than the old T1/T2. Not even close. As bright as a high powered Cree? No, but no run of the mill Lux3 level, either. The K2 used is well centered, extremely bright and very white; mine is "snow". The beam quality, for me, couldn't be any better. Not an artifact, ring, dark spot, etc - Perfect. The beam has got a bit wider spot and great spill; an extremely useful pattern. The T1 came loaded with 2 Energizer 123 cells (instead of the older model using 1 cell; size is the same as cell#2 replaced the long TIROS). The threads were dry and needed a little nyogel.

I am thinking Inova is intending the T1 for task light and medium range; a more useful beam for vision is hard to imagine short of a total flood. I think this is why the new T2 recieved the flared head of the T3 for more throw.

I had the old T1/T2. Neither was bright enough for me to warrant the larger size/weight of the light. I also ended up selling them because I hated the almost total lack of spill using TIROS. Nice throw, but be prepared to trip over loose bricks in your walkway. Both of these issues have been corrected on the new T series. Of course, the increased brightness of the T1 is courtesy of a 740ma drain at the battery. Because this must be a buck circuit, over that amount will be hitting the emitter. The light gets warm in operation after a few minutes, but not hot.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with the T1. They may not have harnessed the latest emitter, but they did a good job with this light. Build quality, including the SF quality body, AR lens, AL reflector and clickie are all top notch.

Thanks for your review. I'll definitely pick up a couple of Inova T series. One of each, probably..

Wow. I consider the 630 mA drain of the older, single cell T1 to be high.
At that rate, the new 2-cell T1 should have a shorter battery life than the old 1-cell T1.

Thanks for the review.

Thanks Phaserburn for that overview of your new Inova T1. Is Inova using Energizer CR123A's as included batteries now? (Before they used Duracell.)

What's really neat about the T series is that you can buy tube extenders so that the 2 cell T1 and T2 can use 4AA type cells. $26 shipped... in Inova AA Extender thread by Mr. download. I think he has a bucn of them left too...I wonder how the new T's would work on 4 NiMh Eneloops? :grin2:

The 740ma is likely the led drive current, if it is a buck circuit then that will be generated from less than the old 630ma from the batter as the additional voltage over the forward voltage of the LED is converted to extra current. In other words run time should be better over all.

It has pores?

Ya know, I knew when I typed that that someone would call me out on it! Yes, flashlights have pores.

Yes, Inova appears to be shipping Energizers instead of Duracells.

Funny thing is, this is an enormous improvement in size for Inova. Before, you needed a T3 for this kind of output; now it's available in a T1. I'm not really comparing actual output of the old T3 vs new T1, but you get my point.

I think Inova has the best quality build available. They give Surefire a run for their money, and at a fraction of the cost. I am quite sure you could run over a T1 with a truck and it wouldn't bat an eye. Or pore.

I know they aren't directly comparable but how do you think the new T1's output (amount of light, throw/flood) compares to, say a standard 6V incan (P60, G2/6P) Surefire?

cans someone see if a 17670 rechargeable will fit in this or can it handle 2 rcr123s?

I brought this thread back because in another thread (fenix, that good ?) it was suggested that the T1(new model) was not tactical in terms of brightness.Didn't want to hijack that thread but I did do some comparing to my G2 with P60 lamp. The T1 seems to be every bit as bright as my G2,fresh batteries in both lights of course, even a little brighter. The T1's spill seems more usable than the G2's but the G2 will throw farther.I looked at the beams both inside and out in my comparison not just whitewall hunting.I was always under the impression that the G2 was considered a small tactical light and INOVA's T1 meets those standards, incan/led debate aside. If you are looking for cree output with 100 lumens or more I don't believe the T1 is doing that. The T1 is much brighter than any of my LUXI/LUXIII lights. The T1 is not going to be as efficient or bright as a well made cree light but I like its form factor more than any other light that size.

I have the T3 (new) I will have to pick up a T1 as well. Thanks for the review. (by the way...to my eyes, the T3 puts out between the P60 and P61 in brightness) I would assume the T1 should be able to hit very close to P60 levels in a very tough and reliable light.

is it worth getting a t1, I loved the tiros version, i still think it's one of the best lights and one of the most charming light's i've ever purchased.

good thing the search exists, i was about to ask if anyone noticed the new photo of the t1 on inova with the reflector.

might need to supplement my TRIOS T1 with this new version.....anyone have the ability to do a runtime graph?

thanks,
Leon

You bet it is for 40 bucks! The new T1 is like a poor man's SF L4. Great light for the value. :)
