Got to play with an interesting new light

One of the volunteer firefighters I work with showed me an interesting new light tonight. He works for Energizer and had a new Hard Case Tactical light. He said that it is the new military issue light. It looked to me to be the replacement for the old crooked neck lights. It has four light settings. A blue led, a red led, an infared led, and a large white led. The head swivels from 90 degrees to 180 degrees. There is a large clip on the back of the light. It runs off two AA batteries. He's supposed to be picking me up one the next time he has a chance.

The only info I've found so far is here: http://65.108.202.216/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=FG-EHCTF&Category_Code=FLASH

Has anyone else seen or tried one of these? They seem pretty practical to me, at least for general purpose.

Thank you for posting that new flashlight. I didn't know the military was switching to the new model. Is it available only on the online store you mentioned?

Like I said, he told me that this was the new military light. I don't know if that's true. He said that Energizer just got the contract. As far as availability, I don't know that either. I just did a search and that was what I found. I'm sure if one place has it, then others do or will as well.

If and when he gets me one of these, I'll be sure to post a better review.

I posted a review a while back in the led section with pics and a couple of beamshots. If you go to the Search tab and type in 'Hardcase' you should be able to find it on the first page.

I really like the light. 8-70 hrs on a set of batts is great for me since my other lights burn through them much faster than that. Also the red and blue leds come in handy when you want ONLY a little light. I like mine better than my SL led survivor just because of all the different applications it has as well as burntime. I honestly believe it is well worth the $68.00 if it meets your needs.

woodrow, on your review thread I asked about the water resistance of the Eveready Tactical light, but you never answered.

Also, would it be possible for you to post a few pics of the angle head arrangement on this light? I'm curious as to how the juice gets from the body into the tilting head.

Thanks.

ringzero: I am so sorry! I thought I replied to your water resistance question, but maybe I did not. I could not find anything in the instructions detailing weather the light was water resistant or proof, only that it would float with the lithiums in it. I am sure it could survive a quick dunking at least, but I would not dive into a lake with it.

As to pictures of the electronics going to the head... I am sorry, but I will have to go through another roll of film and have a cd made to post them. My slr is film until I have the $$$ set aside for a new one...but with all these new lights to buy, it might be a while.

I did look and try to find where the electronics go into the head...I cannot see which side they go in on or if they go in on both sides. They did a great job of putting it together. I can tell you thet the wires must go in through one of the side tabs and that is all. Hope that helps... again I apologize about not replying the first time.

This look like a cool light energizer. Something different........runs on easily available cells and since its by energizer, their rechargeables should be ok also.

Nice one energizer.

Seems a bit hard to find, any online retailers that ship internationally carry it?

I tried a search for 'energizer hardcase, and it came up with all sorts of other energizer lights, but not this one.

Don't sweat it woodrow. Maybe you did reply and I lost track of the thread and missed seeing your reply.

Please post some more pics and beamshots - when you get around to it, in your own good time.

I was impressed with the light and your review of it, and will definitely consider buying it in the future. I've bought so many lights lately that I'm taking a break on getting any new lights.

But, this light grabs my attention. I love anglehead lights that can be clipped onto pack straps or clothing.

You might want to have a look at the new Pentagonlight 1AA anglehead light. Cute little thing. Looks really useful to me.

Looks like a potential replacement for the Fulton angle-neck lights. Not really "tactical" so much as a great field light. Save for the IR LED, sounds like it has great potential for general use. Perhaps the IR LED would be handy for the rest of us without NVG for ... cameras with "nightshot" modes?

Greetings!

I'm interested in this light - I saw one at a local sporting goods store a few days ago and my first thought was "poor-man's Kroma". I came within a few braincells of actually buying one, after reading everything on the package. However...

I could not find a light output figure anywhere on the packaging. Given that the White LED has a burn time of 8 hours on a pair of AA batteries, I would not expect that it has much more than maybe 20 Lumens output... so I hesitated because of that and finally decided against it until I had more information.

When will flashlight manufacturers learn that you MUST give a light output figure on mid-high end flashlights for them to be taken seriously?

Best wishes,
Bawko

I also wish this light was brighter....that being said, it has retired my MMag 3AA and believe it or not my Sl SurvivorLED. The MMled is barely brighter than the Energizer, but the Survivor has incredible throw and is brighter.

The reason I love the light is that neither the MMag of the Survivor have 8 hrs on their main beam. The light is also lighter and smaller than the Survivor and I find myself really liking the other led options.

One thing I have yet to persue for the light is having someone put a cree led in it. There are Several philips screws that should allow total access to the led. The same cannot be said for the survivor.

Woodrow - I cannot speak to the "modability" of this light, but can tell you that the regular 2xAA Hardcase lights can be modded. I have had 2 of the old style yellow and two of the new gray versions modded. All four are better lights now. One of the new versions is sporting 3x wide-angle orange LEDs. Thanks to Milkyspit for putting up with my "unusual" requests.

When this new tactical version is more readily available I plan to buy one and send it to Milky for a little TLC.

Thanks for the advice. Having it modded will be done in the next few months. Thanks.
