Sold/Expired *Gots Parts?* Mini Edc Second Run with P7/MC-E Leds And Backlit Tailcap Button

Re: Mini Edc Second Run with P7/MC-E Leds And Backlit Tailcap Button

Sabrewolf -

"Direct Drive or 2-Mode option: I can setup the led to run directly
from the battery with the stock on-off clicky, or a 2-Mode clicky
that can have a high and a low. from about 20 lumens on low, to
about 500 lumens when using a Safe Chemistry high output 3.7v
battery. The 2-mode clicky works like this: Off-1-2 < High or low
can be setup to either mode :grin2: So if you wanted High on the first
click from off, then so be it! Mwa!"

Please tell me what is a "safe chemistry high output 3.7V battery?

I was planning on using AW's RCR 123's. Do you consider them to be "safe chemistry" ?

Well, you can use a protected trustfire/ultrafire/aw rcr123 li-ion batt..
that will max out at about 1600mA for a few mins..
Or, you can use a Li-Mn battery from AW that should put out about 2500-3000mA.
But, i dont have them to play with for testing 🙁

Soo, a Li-Mn is a "Safe" chemistry battery. If i have the acronyms wrong,
please let me know.. i dont like looking like a goof..:ohgeez:
Even though, I'am goofy looking

Can anyone shed any light on this issue? Aw just lists his Protected R123 batteries like this: R123A ( 750 mAH ) ----- $ 6.00 each *New Cell Details If you click on details it still does not say what the chemistry is.

Anyone know?

Are these batteries safe in this light?

Check out the Dealer's Corner on MarketPlace title "IMR 16340/IMR 18650" thread on these new safe chemistry cells.

So now a 123 battery with different chemestry is a 16340? I guess this is the battery that Sabrewolf is referring to.

Still wondering if protected AW 123's are safe or unsafe to use in this light?

Straight answers are hard to come by on this issue. If a person tried real hard to complicate this issue I doubt that it could be made more difficult to understand.

Just to clarify..
A 16340 IS a 123 battery.. no matter what the Chemistry.
It is the Designation of the Size of the battery. 16mm round, 34mm long,
And the "0" suffix means that it is Round 🙂 🙂

Yes, You can use an AW Protected Regular RCR123 battery

Yes, You can use a Safe Chemistry Li-MN 123 battery

Yes, You can use Any Protected Ultrafire/Trustfire 123 Battery

No, Do not use an Un-Protected 123 battery, Unless you know
EVERYTHING there is to know about them with high drain applications.

These rules Apply to ANY option on my light... Ie, Direct Drive, 2-Mode
clicky, and the Multi-Mode Stock 95.00 light.

I Hope that answers everythang :grin2:

Sabrewolf - Thank you for posting that battery information. After spending a few hours researching the issue at AW's site and Battery University I had come to some understanding of the sitution. I was composing a response for others that may be as unenlightened as me (if such a thing is possible) when your response popped up. No need now. I would just like to add the following.

Under the Lithium Ion battery umbrella, there are many Lithium Ion chemistries. The AW batteries that many of us have been using that are commonly referred to as Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) are more accurately Lithium Cobalt or Li-Co.

Only one more question. Why are 16340 batteries referred to as 123's?

My apologies for diverting your sales thread with these battery issues.

I have no problems answering questions :grin2:

The 123 label was coined by manufacturers and product companies.
the "123" label means in manufaturer speak as 1x 2/3 of an A-Cell..
Who comes up with this mishmosh crap? well, anywho (whichwho?)
here is a Wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CR123
Check it out. Pretty informative reading 🙂 Not....
All yer answers may/may not be there, hehe

Ohh, so more digging revealed this, from a link on the wiki listed above:

I think you mentioned that the actual draw is 3ma? You might want to correct the caption in the picture. :poke:

(BTW, that's a big difference. At 15ma, that would mean recharging the RCR123 every other day, just to supply the tailcap.)

Re: Mini Edc Second Run with P7/MC-E Leds And Backlit Tailcap Button

I am thinking about selling it alongside the mini edc...
Just dont know if there is enough interest?
It may be the next groupbuy though.. What do you think?

Sabrewolf:

My 2 cents: The mini-EDC fills a niche. A small floody BRIGHT light. Not many of those on the market. (Even I, who have no need for anything this bright, find myself attracted to it! 🙄) However, in the 18650 form factor, there are a slew of competing products. I'm not sure that your proposed 18650-based light would compare favorably against the features and price point of the competition.

Re: Mini Edc Second Run with P7/MC-E Leds And Backlit Tailcap Button

Hi folks.
Can someone enlighten me (pun intended) and tell me what a TF 801 is? I saw it on another page in this thread. Pictures, a link, description?

Thanks, and happy new year  Greg

I "May" be offering these in a grooupbuy soon.
I still have to come up with the details and options 🙂

Re: Mini Edc Second Run with P7/MC-E Leds And Backlit Tailcap Button

Thanks sabrewolf.
If I follow the battery tutorial from before, an 18650 is a "AA" sized cell (round...) but not necessarily 1.5v? I guess the idea is to find a donor light whose size and modes you like, and then change the led ?

Re: Mini Edc Second Run with P7/MC-E Leds And Backlit Tailcap Button

I hope that answers the Size Questions..
IMAG0170.jpg

RCR123,18650,1044,14500 batteries are ALL 3.7v batts.. Except the LifePo 18650's which are 3.2v
Ohh, and if you have ever heard of 10440 and 14500 batteries,
they are AAA and AA Equivalents in a 3.7v Lithium Ion Chemistry.

Re: Mini Edc Second Run with P7/MC-E Leds And Backlit Tailcap Button

oops- bad math on my part... sorry. I run ultrafire 10440's in my Fenix LOD. we can blame that little beauty for the onset of my sickness...😀 Thanks for the size comparison pic.

Re: Mini Edc Second Run with P7/MC-E Leds And Backlit Tailcap Button

Sabrewolf-
Any luck with the 18650 EDC sales thread? I'm curious..😀.
