Started out with a simple, cheap somewhat bright (compared to a minimag!!) dealextreme cree, sku 1892... Ran it all summer as a commuter bike light and it worked great. Not ultra bright but did plenty well on the street. Ended up purchasing a Nite Ridre bike light, so this little DX cree became the new toy...
First, I dropped a Q5 and upgraded driver board into it. Nice increase in brightness, but huge improvement in tint! Running off LSD NiMH it was quite bright and long lasting... But alas, that wasn't enough. Pushing around 4Vf and drawing a little over an amp, the led was getting a rather low current. So I got a pair of 3.7v 14500 li-ion cells... Current draw on the batt is just about 1A and I would assume vf remains the same so I'm probably pushing over 600mA to the LED... NICE. Brighter than my G2 incan on fresh 123's; although the g2 out throws it by a smidge...
Good durable light (trust me!), cheap to start with, but man what a screamer now! Sory for the green-wall, but here's a comparision with the G2...
