Green center spot Fenix L0D CE Q4

Hi all,

I been reading for a while but first post. After researching around these forums I decided to buy the Fenix L0D CE Q4, which arrived yesterday from China.

My surprise was to find the beam has a greenish (dirty) tint at the very center, not too small.

Is this normal? I was expecting to have a white clear beam.

I do own several red 2007 Christmas Edition L0Ds, and those do have a perfect tint.

I would guess that QC - or general quality - on those lights diminished over the time :shakehead

My 3 L0Ds all have perfect tint, so does my SS LD01, but its not uncommon to get a bad tinted LED, its not a Fenix problem, also much more expensive lights suffer from this.

Thank you MiniLux for your reply. The picture you posted shows something similar to the problem I have with mine.

Disappointing to finally decide to spend more than $10 (50.. ) dollars in a flashlight to have this problem :sigh:

I am not sure if I will buy a Fenix light ever again.

Tint is not something Flashlight companies can control. Even the best companies can have lights with bad tint unless they sort and test out each LED they put into every single light.

LEDs of a single model are all made using the same, or very similar processes, and then sorted by output/efficiency, and tint, some also sort by forward voltage.

Even if a flashlight company buys from a single tint bin, there can still be visible differences in tint. Buying from a single bin might also not be cost effective, so they buy from a few bins. Look at the charts here, there is a great variation in tint even in the same bin.

This uncertainty in tint used to be called the Luxeon lottery back when Luxeons were the major high power LEDs. Tints then seemed to be even worse.
