Anyone want to trade my Costco HID for a Polarion?

Good meeting last night, glad you all made it out.

I had to get the vomit comet :barf: home last night (Ackbar knows what I mean).

Tebore, thanks for bringing your tripod.

Here are the pictures from last night. They're all in full res on my Flickr. Feel free to leave comments if you have a Flickr account. There are pictures of all the CPFers (except me - I was holding the camera), various lights including the entire Quark lineup and beamshots in the dark at High Park. Costco HID vs. DEFT is quite interesting. Beamshots between different pictures are not cross comparable due to different exposures. Ackbar's m@g85 looks dimmer due to lower exposure.

Thanks to the retailers (Eric - EKL from 4sevens.ca and John from J2ledflashlight.com) for bringing new things for us to see.

My opinions on some of the lights (the ones I haven't seen in action before):

-The Quark range are a great bunch of flashlights, the 2 x cr123 would be my choice.

-Fenix TK40 was the biggest surprise to me. It easily outshines the Jetbeam M1x and my Olight m30 in both output and throw (sorry no beamshots of that). No doughnut at distance and no noticeable PWM flicker at low output modes. After reading the description, I initially thought that the UI would be horrendous but this was not the case at all. It is a little slow to go through all the modes though but I could live with that.

-Fenix TA20. This is one of the best UI's I've seen on a flashlight in fact I prefer it to the Surefire U2's UI. I just wish they'd get rid of that strobe mode.

-DEFT. Very impressive indeed. The fact that a single die cree? LED can even be seen next to the 35W Costco HID is amazing.

We won't get as many people without the retailers. Normally there are just 3 or 4 of us.

Has anyone made a list of area members and PMed them? Not a lot of people go to the Trade Shows & Get Together subforum.

I remember we did that last summer.

I PM'ed a whole mess of people the last few times and didn't get a response from them.

I'm up to hanging with you guys on the 26th. I doubt very many people would show up, especially if we start doing it often. I may wait a year before organizing another get-together.

If people want to show up they'll show up. They got to make an effort too, otherwise organizing a meet becomes a chore instead of something fun.

Maybe we should go meet up with those guys in Ottawa for a change of venue.

I should be able to make it on the 26th aug. I'd be up for a trip to Ottawa as well but we should probably do that on a weekend.

Well, I agree that we won't be able to get as many people out every time but I mean if you think of it as an unofficial meet and kind of a night out with 'the boys', then even if we have 3 or 4 people and just chat in a coffee shop...it's not that bad.

As for the Ottawa trip, it would have to be a decent confirmed members showing up before I would consider doing this. I mean, it involves probably renting a van or something because it seems most of us don't drive.

We're having an equally difficult time getting folks together here as well.

We managed to get 3 people including myself (would have been 5 if not for work and travel) to meet with Eric when he was here in late June.
We only had 3 days to get it together so I guess we can't complain too much 🙂

We're going to try for something once it starts getting dark earlier so we can play with some lights.

I left my planning calendar at home so I'll let you know for Aug 26.I always enjoy getting together with the group for some talk and a night walk. This last meet was awesome! I got to spend time with some really cool people and some really cool toys, er I mean necessary illumination tools. btw does illumination tool really sound more sophisticated than flashlight? 😉Thanks Ackbar for organizing another successful meetup.

Come on guys, I really enjoyed the last meet. I need a couple of impromptu meets. Can everyone PM me their phone numbers so that when I get that flashaholic itch and I talk to someone about my addiction? 🙂

Hey everyone! Glad to hear you guys all had a great time, and the reps from the various places, wow! Happy to hear positives on the tk40, I actually caved in and just ordered one :twothumbs

Hi guys, depending on the schedules, I don't mind doing a 2 days notice to meet up...even if its a small group. I'll check this thread for updates.
