i have made three lights that contain a mc-e coolwhite others with neutralwhite and warmwhite, driven at 1400ma/die without any problems. i think 2 amps per die are possible with an advanced cooling.
I built some of these boards that allow you to solder an MC-E directly to a piece of a copper, probably saves anywhere from 1-3C/W. I haven't gone overboard on the testing yet, but I'd like to see what I can get it up to.. I have an M flux WD lying around somewhere that was sent to me.. and I hate WD tint so I don't mind blowing that one up. I'll put it on the to-do list.
