Has Princeton fixed the hinge on the apex headlamp?

I have been using my Apex for over a year every night. I have a Kennel http://MrPitBull.com and let the dogs out every night before retiring. Love the Apex. The weak point is the hinge that allows the light to tilt. Does anyone know if it has been improved or is it replaceable? Additionally, I have broke one of the prongs that holds the strap on the battery pack. If the hinge is improved it would be tough to beat this headlamp. I use rechargeables in it... what a savings!

Re: HAS PRINCETON FIXED THE HINGE ON THE APEX?

I have just had to send one back from the UK. Both tabs on the light side of the hinge broke. I tried emailing but didn't get a reply in the end I phoned and they agreed straight away to replace it. Its a shame that this seems to be an ongoing issue as performance wise its a great headlamp!

Martin, How old a unit was it? I am wondering if they have addressed it. I would buy another one if they have.

I am afraid it was new.... having said that I bought three and the other two have been fine. Also customer services have been very efficient, once I managed to talk to them.

.... if you can ... please edit your YELLING in your subject.

I would love to know about more cracking .... I thought I was the only one years ago but now this.

Two years ago they knew they had a problem with their plastic moulding and the brittleness of it.
Yes they may have a great customer service but why not make a good product to begin with?

Princton Tec still owes me 64$ for sending back a light that was cracked.

To answer your question .... no they have not fixed the hinge.

to Martin SH ... yes it's a good headlamp until it cracks .... I'm not disagreeing with you ...more wishing you were right.

Sarratt,

My unit that broke is over a year old. Are you saying that they have fixed the plasitic since that time.

Thanks

Some plastic costs more than others. Think Princeton Tech chose the lower
end of the spectrum while Petzl went for the upper. I've modified both brands
and can say with assurance PT plastic cracks with ease while Petzl you have to saw and twist and pull on until finally that last little bit grudgingly parts.

Thermoplastic and thermoset polymers such as ABS, nylon, polycarbonate, polyester, polyethylene and polypropylene...only a question of how much you want to spend.
