Has Wolf Eyes changed their lamp specs?

I recently got a new WE 3.7V for my Sniper, and was surprised at what I observed. I compared it directly (re: simultaneously) with a LF EO-4. My previous 3.7V WE had a fairly floody beam to it; this one has the same beam pattern as the E0-4! (I took both out for a half hour walk last night, and it was a bit foggy; perfect for beam comparisons). The WE was brighter in both spill and spot (with similar sized hotspots to boot). The hotspot was a little brighter, and the spill was much brighter. So, upon seeing this, out came the trusty DMM; the WE was drawing over 2.3A, not 2.1 like my previous WE one (and the LF, too). Others have noted here on CPF that the WE 3.7 draws 2.1A.

Soooo - has Wolf Eyes changed their bulb specs? Anyone else notice this? More output and different beam pattern. The LF lamp has the frosted bulb tip, while the WE doesn't, which might explain the slightly brighter spot.

I am also a fan of the 3.7V incan D26 lamps. I have the old WE and the new one, as well as the EO-4 and made the same observation only recently. Yes the new WE 3.7V lamp has more of a spotty beam shape than the old one and yes it is brighter than the EO-4.

Have you noticed the same thing with any of the other WE lamps? This 3.7V is the first WE lamp I've bought in awhile.

Same here, most of my other lamps are LF EO series. I am sure that for eg. the EO-9 is the second brightest D26 9 volt lamp out there, after the SF P91.

The FM1794 is brighter than either of those.

Interesting that WE may have changed their lamp specs, though. Has there been any word from the manufacturers or WE dealers about this?

Yes, I have one of those bi-pins in my 2x C BigLeef and FM-D26, I did not consider the 1794 as a traditional D26 lamp.....and yes, it is a bright bulb alright, I have put the P91 in my draw as a back-up when I run out of 1794's. :)

Hi Phaserburn, thank you for inviting me to comment on this. Yes the specs have changed. In terms of amps drawn I haven't asked the figures (WE is quite open with this information, just as a rule doesn't provide as much info on lamps as say LF). Two years ago the D26 3.7V lamp was rated at 80 lumens. Approximately a year ago it changed to 100 lumens. Recently it has changed to 120 lumens. I am not sure of the exact spec change, but as we know WE is not the sort of company which changes the numbers on the outside of the box without changing something on the inside.

Way to go Glen, I thought that my new WE 3.7 incan was brighter and more of a spot than my old one......I wish my old lamps would burn up so I can replace them with the new ones....knowing WE lamps, this will ba a while yet. :)

Glen, thanks. Would it be possible for you to inquire with WE about the new specs, beyond lumen ratings (voltage, current, etc)? If there are new lamps, I would like to get them but need to know which ones have changed (vs the ones I already have).

While more lumens is a Good Thing, I still prefer the wide beam of the original 80-lumen lamp. For outdoor use, I even prefer its coloring.

Yes, I have just been through an ordeal with my old M300 and the older bulb. I´ve learned since that the new light has a new and better bulb. Not having the light yet I cannot appreciate it but it´s coming.

The older WE D26 3.7v lamp wasn't really that good; although much better than a Minimag :) Glad to see Wolf Eyes upgrading their lamps a little bit.

Welcome back to the incan club Paul in Maryland

Phaserburn, there are over 30 lamps in the WE range, big task to list all the changes for all as I would have to list the complete change history as I don't know when someone purchased their lamps (you haven't mentioned when you purchased yours or which models, for example and other readers may be different). I think for sake of efficiency why don't you ask the dealer you are purchasing from, also because he could advise what stock he has which is new and which may be older. No point getting old stock from a dealer because we assumed they had new stock, best to ask them.
