I know I've read somewhere in a thread about some issues with and potential fixes for the clicky on the LF3XT, but I cannot find it. What mine is doing is sometimes not functioning at all when pushed and sometimes coming on when it is knocked or bumped. I would appreciate someone pointing me to the tread that discusses this. Thanks guys.

Mine was coming On when knocked too, like sometimes when I set it down on a hard surface. I started using a longer battery (about 1-2mm) and it hasn't done it since. Guessing that the increased battery pressure is what was needed.

To begin with, the LF3XT does not have a "clicky" switch per se: pressing the switch activates a piston contact without any "click". Any problems that you have are probably due to some contamination of the tail switch assembly. It can be opened by using a hardened steel rod slightly smaller than the diameter of the hole in the tail piece: hold hard on the back part, insert and twist anti clockwise to open. Clean all parts thoroughly and re-assemble without any oils or grease. If there are no manufacturing defects than you should have no more problems, otherwise contact your dealer. Good luck.:welcome: Mine works with all battery lengths.

Thanks. I cleaned with alcohol. Hope that was ok.

The LF3XT does indeed have a clicky switch !

If the switch assembly is taken apart by removing brass retainer using tweezers or small scissors you will INDEED see a micro clicky switch and you can hear it CLICK whan you press the small red button. If you check out the pics in selfbuilt's review, you can see the disassembled switch assembly.

The alum. cap is used instead of rubber boot. THERE IS NO PISTON

If you are able to take apart the tail switch assembly and get to the micro switch, clean switch with alcohol and put a tiny dab of silicone grease on side of red switch button, then lube 0-ring on alum switch cap and reassemble. Just make sure switch is nice and crisp before you do.

This should fix your switch problem.

Thanks Walter. Can you be more specific as to how I would dissemble the tail switch? I have Selfbuilt's picture but am not sure what to do with the tweezers in order to take that assembly apart.

Are you sure your switch mod using spacer is not causing your light to come on accidently ?

Increased pressure on tail spring has no bearing on swtch function.

Best advice is to go back into LF3XT thread. There are lots of posts explaining and showing how to take apart. Just be careful, go slow, and you will get it apart. I found tweezers were not strong enough and used small scissors in notches in brass retainer. You have to break it free.

I think I can manage with a watch case back removal tool. Thanks.

The LF3XT is my current "fill the hole where contentment with life should exist" obsession, so it's important that it should function correctly. :)

I'm waiting on my next "obsession" to arrive...an Arcmania Extreme III ...another programmable toy with a flashlight attached.

No! I mean yes! I'm sure it's not the cause. It was doing this before the mod and there is still slight free play between the switch and the micro sw button. It's just that now, the switch feels like a fine piece of electronic equipment that couples with rest of the workings of the light. Superb! Clicks are now distinct and miscues have been all but eliminated.

I'm aware of this.

Again!? I know it all by heart! ;)

Sorry to point out something you were aware of, but you indicated earlier that longer battery and increased battery pressure is what was needed.

No problem. What I was thinking was that maybe, the battery was sliding latterly when jarred and creating intermittent contact causing the programing to think it was a command. It would come On in some weird mode that responded strangely, or not at all to further clicks. A few times, after coming On after a knock, another knock would cause it to start ramping, on it's own. Another knock would cause it to stop, seemingly setting that output to memory. Weird. With the little bit more battery pressure, (longer battery length, but same brand) I can't get it to do it.

There are TWO tail end battery springs... one inside brass battery tube and the other one between brass tube and switch assembly.

Extra battery length and extra pressure are inside of brass battery tube and have nothing to do with switch function.
