Just got an HDS in a trade and the switch is going south in it. Where can we get it repaired or replaced? I heard Novatac was doing repairs on them. :mecry:

Please let us now how you make out. I was in touch with them last week and was told that they have no more replacement parts left for hds lights!

thanks for the info, i didn't realize that.

the HDS EDC series lights came with a lifetime warranty which stated that they would either repair, replace, or refund the light.
so hopefully your light can be replaced with a Novatac light if nothing else can be done..

and yes, please do let us know how it turns out.:)

actually all my hds lights are in good working order i sent them my 120p for repairs. and they fixed me right up i just asked novatac what to do if i did need work on any of my hds. but i guess even if they don't have any parts left they could still try to fix it.

 sorry for the misunderstanding, i was actually refering to MARNAV1's light.

but good to know your HDS's are solid!

Did you email Jim Schecter at Novatac?

Since they do have a lifetime warranty you should get either a new switch, your switch repaired, a replacement light or a refund.

They have been very good to me and most users have said their CS is excellent.:twothumbs

I thought the Novatac and HDS threads were different sizes and incompatible. No?

when the Novatacs first came out, people had tried the 18650 and 2x123 HDS tails on them and they worked. (note: the 2x123 is not recommended though)

The novatac tail will work just fine. I have both.

thankyou.

hopefully, Novatac will exchange the tailcap for a Novatac one if they are out of the HDS tailcaps.

Have sent emails to Novatac and Jim Schecter, haven't heard anything yet. I'll give it a few days.

Got an email from Jim, no switches are availible. Now I'm stuck with a $225 light with a bum switch, very unhappy! :mecry::sigh:

No switches available? An entire production facility and they can't find one tailcap kicking around ? I thought they were gonna honor the HDS warranty repair issues that might crop up? Although it would be a total loss each and every time for them to have to devote any resources to a product they neither made nor sold I could have sworn they said they were going to fix them .

Thats what I thought too. I told him up front that I bought the light from a CPF member and the emitter had been changed so I couldn't claim warranty but I wanted to be upfront with him. He said no switches are availible at this time. They dont sell them seperately either. So if I cant find one somebody will sell (and now they probably wont I'm out of luck I guess). Not trying to bash Novatac and I'm willing to buy a switch but I don't know what will happen now.

Marnav1, the fact that you were upfront about your light to Novatac shows great character.

it's very odd that they wouldn't sell you a Novatac tailcap?

i'll keep an eye out for an HDS/Novatac tailcap for you.

Well that is a real downer of a result. You were honest about the modification and it does arguably void the warranty - but still when Novatac bought the HDS design and parts - it is assumed from Henry's comments that the asset deal also involved assuming the liabilities for support and parts. Which apparently has resulted in zero parts and zero support. It makes you wonder what the answer would have been if you had a non-modded light bought from a dealer... Heck, you weren't asking for warranty service, just some parts support...

Personally, this sours me a bit to Novatac. Orphaning, intentionally it seems, a product for which you've assumed liabilities smacks of built in obsolescence in order to sell more new Novatac lights. IIRC they purchased the HDS machining so they could, conceivably, make parts and sell them. Seems like the better business decision.

Yes I thought that since the lights are so similar that getting a switch or bezel etc wouldn't be a problem. Maybe they have an agreement of some kind I don't know. I could have switched the tail with my B42 and sent it in but didn't want to do that. Maybe they will sell switches eventually, I don't know. They look identical to a Novatac. I've never understood why they don't still make the parts and different tubes etc. Only Jim or Henry could answer that. But I will say it's not likely that I would buy a Novatac or another HDS for that matter. This switch probably won't be easy to find.

I can understand Henry's position/predicament - HDS literally doesn't have the parts or machining, and does not own the rights to them either. It does make you wish that he could buy those rights back, however, to support all the HDS EDC users out there who bought a product based on his excellent reputation for support...

I have an HDS B42XRGT which I've been holding off on modding - mostly due to not wanting the lose the low low. But this might provide additional reasoning for me to avoid doing so - again assuming they would provide warranty protection to a light purchased new and unmodified - which I'm not sure they would (but they'd get an argument from me about it!).
