I think he’s switching between the new Samsung and the NLT both in a rotary. However he does have a bunch of HDS lights to choose from.

I see, thanks
I am going to buy 1 more HDS and since he has many, I wanted to know which is his most favorite

One of the possible reasons - feed unification, my friend has been using flashlights with 18350, he likes my HDS after playing with it for a week, but he hates CR123 and is not going to buy 16340 because he has a lot of 18350. It is possible that now he will make an order.

If someone needs the added 300+ mAh of the 18350 then it makes sense, but he could buy about (27) 16340s for the price of the 18350 battery compartment, so he isn’t actually saving money by trying to use a cell he already has.

He has about 40 pieces 18350 and about 15 lanterns at 18350, none at 16340. He likes the thought better to buy the 18350 battery compartment and the head separately than 1 flashlight on 16340 with batteries, which is out of his line. It may seem strange, but who has no weirdness?))

Hogo, what is your most favorite HDS flashlight?
Rotary or Executive? and which emitter?

Most recently it has been the SDR50. I used that almost exclusively for my pre-dawn hikes over the last month.
In the house I have been using an SS40 with white diffuse reflector.
For photos and in the leather shop I use a High Noon with white diffuse reflector, but also use the Samsung 5400k in there as well.
My bug-out-bag has an NLT as does my LBV.

My least used non-monochromatic lights would be the 250 and 325 XP-L (which I recently stole off from Henry's desk).

Henry uses a High Noon. That is what is in his pocket.

I am one of these buyers. I regularly carry a D4v2 which feeds on either 18650 or 18350. I also have an angle light that I often carry which will also take either 18mm cell.

When I travel I aim to standardize all my cells, so having both of my favorite flashlights on 18350 means I can travel with sufficient backup cells without redundancy that cannot be swapped back and forth.

The last time I traveled (this summer) I chose to standardize on 18650, which meant I had to swallow the bitter pill that is trying to EDC an HDS with 18650 tube. Which is fine, but bulky.

It’s not about the extra capacity, which is still quite nice. It’s about the flexibility it offers me.

thank you :)
I think I'll buy the SS40 for my next Rotary.

BTW, what's the high noon?

the INR 16340 HDS sells is 700mAh
the Keeppower INR 18350 I use is 1200mAh
that is a 500 mAh difference
70% more capacity for the 18350

imo it makes little sense to just buy an 18350 tube..I would buy a complete light
with 18350 I can still use CR123 if I want to.

If I was buying an HDS today, it would not buy it with a CR123 body.. no reason to limit my options to 16340, when there is an 18350 tube available.

I had been a big fan of high noon until recently but now I think I prefer a crisper 6500K high cri.

At the moment, the best thing @6500K is an optisolis which is probably irrelevant for HDS except with the diffuse reflector or an upcoming aspheric.

But I expect good options by the time of the AA HDS.

Hogo makes it clear he prefers rotary, I'm sure Henry does as well.

Yep. The Executive is pretty much dead to Henry and I.
When I picked up a 325 to compare against some of the other lights a few weeks ago, I told Henry to program it as an Executive... he looked at me like I had 3 heads... I had a 2AA Executive tube at home that needed a head so... If it was going to be a light I used regularly, it would be a Rotary.

I'm too spoiled in that I always turn it on in the lowest setting and then ramp up to just where I need it. I want to preserve my night vision as much as possible.

I definitely understand the simplicity of using a single fuel I just meant that if that fella was trying to save money by not buying another cell size buying a separate extra compartment kinda defeats that purpose. Haha. Especially with the tiny USB magnet chargers you can easily charge any size li-ion or NiMH cell on the road. Someone was asking why the sales were not higher so I was just speculating on some thought processes that made sense to me.

I totally agree. If I was looking to buy another HDS I would definitely buy it with the 18350 - I do like that size and have several favorite lights that use it. But as a standalone accessory I can’t justify it.

As an aside, I have an order coming from Orbtronic and the 18350s are 1200 mah, but also the 16340s are 880mah!! They are higher capacity even than my old worn AW 18350s that I am phasing out.

Sorry if I missed this, but are there comparison pics of 18650, 18500, 18350, CR123 and AA HDS?
