HDS Systems #23

More than likely, we will add a little girth to the light which will ease manufacturing, specifically, the signal wire. They are a PITA in the 18650 and were in the 18500 and 18350 runs. Basic "Apocalypse" model will be an 18500 base with spacers to use a single AA (which it will support) and CR123 or 18350.
Here you can see the 18500 model. We don't have it on the design board yet as we have been busy on other projects. It won't lego with previous models.

Cool!! Will the reflectors themselves remain Lego? If I ever get diffuse reflectors again or manage to make them myself, it would be nice if they fit

Size/length comparable to a Malkoff MDC AA?

Hello Gents,

I come with bad news or at least I can't figure it out.

My HDS just stopped working correctly so I come in need of help? I've had it since 2019 to say I love my HDS is a understatement, it lives in my left-hand trouser pocket permanently no matter what I'm wearing.. I now feel like I've lost a leg, lol..

Nothing happened meaning no drop or anything, the button just seems to of stopped working. When I take the battery out and leave for a bit then place back in, the HDS turns on for 7 secs roughly and then goes out but then I can't get it to do anything.

Is there something I can try? Am I being a total dunce and missing something? Its always nicely greased and looked after but I fear it's done for and needs fixing in some way..

Any ideas or things to try chaps before I message HDS? Any info or photos you need just ask

Many thanks.

Check the signal wire contact. It might be dirty, or stuck due to grime. It's a necessary component for the switch to operate.

And this was the trick, I did know about the signal wire and why it's there. I got the IPA out and gave the whole thing a good clean and low and behold it now works again.. There was a small piece of lint or something under the wire and it was stopping the springiness of the wire to make contact I guess.

Gone from a bad day to a great day in a few hours.

Thanks for the help 👍

Looking inside my lens top piece are these contact points that are showing wear going to be a future problem? I use rechargeable batteries and only swap them out every couple of weeks I guess.

I'm in a similar boat. My roughly 15-year old Rotary recently stopped working. At first it seemed to be going through batteries unusually quickly and would sometimes power off without warning (not even the low power blink). I could get it to reset by leaving the head off for a couple of minutes, and then it would work again and would be fine for a little while. Then it recently stopped giving me full power output, and when I tried to reset it, the emitter would rapidly blink. Eventually, the light did nothing at all. So now it's being shipped off to Henry for repair and I'm carrying a Maglite XL200 in the meantime.

Were you using new batteries each time? And what was the expiry of those cells?

It sounds like there could be a short somewhere, perhaps an errant metal shaving on the board itself. Have you ever taken the bezel and reflector out?

I would not worry..

I have Never heard of contact ring wearing out, on any light

Plus HDS has lifetime warranty
Hello, Cool wasn't so much worried just something I've noticed while cleaning.

Yes great lights and great service I can't speak highly if them enough as a edc torch.
