Well,it depends on ones idea of 'foreseeable future'. While Henry has a history of spelunking, mine is in LE. While I don't see a raging battle in the lumen war with HDS at the forefront, an 800 lumen 18650 tactical rotary is not out of the question... Don't ask for a timeline but it is being considered as a viable option.
That sounds great, and with the 18650 driving it, very practical too.

I'd definitely be interested, especially if it started with the .02 low.

that info is rarely provided by the manufacturer, but (for the xp-g series) i believe it was Q2 binned because all the serious retailers of bare leds never offered higher bin with this CRI.

I take it this is the light I should be looking at?

Model EDC-E1S-N170

Yes, this light uses the Nichia 219B emitter.

I don't see a neutral light offered in the LE configuration, with black bezel and raised button. This is what I will be receiving from Illumination Supply. The rotary is also now the only light that can now be purchased customized (any bezel, tailcap, and lens offered).

Any light can be ordered customized. Here is the link: http://www.hdssystems.com/Products/Edc/Custom/

Thanks for pointing out the link. It can be found on the different EDC light details pages, not on the general Products page, like the Custom-built Rotary.

I have one of the Ti clickies and I'll put in my vote for development of more aluminum battery tubes over more Ti lights.

I don't like the added weight of Titanium, or the galling of Ti threads, or the inefficiency of thermal conductance (compared to aluminum).

this may be a long shot, but does anyone have a backup of the page that the high CRI EDC Clicky was sold on till it was pulled? I have an ACME threads XP-G HCRI and would love a PDF output of that old page for my own records of my light. anyone have a copy of it?

edit: nvm, I forgot about Archive.org!

Wow, so much has changed since the last time I visited the forums. Looks as though Henry is expanding his brand, nice. The 4500k, high-cri, 170lm light is a dream!!

Question: Many years ago, I had an exchange with Henry about a headlamp. He told me that one was in the works. I just read twenty pages of this thread to find any info about a headlight... Will HDS Systems release a headlamp anytime soon? Thanks

No news yet. I'm quite sure Henry will eventually make one. After all, it has all started with an headlamp...

Now that I have an HDS, I'm wondering if there is ever going to buy another 123-based light ?

I know there will be different versions in the future, but I can't see it getting much better than this.

Has anyone ever had an HDS die on them where they had to buy a new one ?

Bud

Henry will always warranty the light, no need to buy a new one :)

Yes. Returned it to HDS and received a warranty replacement. Other then the fact that it happened during the recent parts supply issue HDS was having and that my replacement took over a year, the warranty was honored without issue.

Yes, there is quite an impressive one in the works, but only so many hours in a day. The main priority over the last 18 months has been sorting out supply issues and getting vendors to not just do the job, but to do it to Henrys expectations.

Easy. Turned and asked Henry directly and typed what he told me!:D
The red work better for high quick drain and the black for a lower prolonged drain.

I see. Most lights in EDC are used in combination. Very rarely would one just use high all the time. While this may be true that the red IMR can deliver and sustain high current draw as compared to the black ones, this however only applies to really high draws like those Mac, where you have a 2.8amps. But HDS would likely be less than 1 amp even at the highest. The black one is just as capable at those draw levels. That is just a little over 1C draw.

Maybe I am wrong. Lol

It seems like certain combinations aren't available; when I try to select rotary w/ black bezel and flush button "Not Available" appears. Also making any changes costs an additional $10, previously there wasn't this fee.
Make sure to change the clip option to no clip. It's defaulted to add a clip and the shopping cart will not let you currently add a clip for the rotary. :)

I bought an ACME 120 high CRI (XP-G) from a fellow CPFer and it is amazing! The tint is so perfect and really is something else.

It's a shame these aren't sold anymore now, but I'll never let this one go

Never say never, but I understand you and I have one too. Frankly, all I need is this HDS High CRI and occasionally Armytek Predator. Oh, yes, and SureFire E1B as a back-up.
