Does the set screw on the clip push straight down on the body, like the shaft collar pictured below?

I'm hoping the answer is no. Those set screws will easily mar anodized aluminum.

Ah the illusive rotary clip finally revealed. Coolness. That black bit is anodize metal?

It appears that clips and looks sell the lights as much as performance and reliability. A lot like nice handles and Damascus lines sell the knives.
I think that with rare exceptions the best clip is no clip, unless of course you want to lose your light and get another one. But when you wear a Park Avenue suit, yeah, good clip is needed, but light is not quite secure.

Perhaps, we could talk about possible improvements or just changes to already excellent lights.
My complaints are minor:
1. Mode changing is a little slow.
2. I would like to have 5 pre-sets not 4. Say, one for Max, one for the lowest brightness or close to it, one for something like 5-10 lumens, one for 50-60 lumens and one for strobe or SOS.
3. Without, here it is again, clip it rolls like hell on a flat surface.
4. SureFire filters and lanyards are fine but why not HDS Systems filters and lanyards? Or even HDS Systems batteries.

Just my humble opinion on your points

1. Mode changing is simple, and i feel is quicker than other lights where you need to cycle through modes - the rotary is even simpler, turn dial and hit button (or the other way around)

2. I feel four modes is perfect - adding a fifth would require a tricky quadruple click - if you need emergency strobe you can assign it to a space when needed
And with the rotary, you can always set max, min and strobe, then have the rotary function deal with anything else between max and min

3. Im not a huge fan of clips - but it doesnt go anywhere if you out it bezel down on said flat surface (i know it wont illuminate stuff like that)
i typically retain my light (currently a V10R) between fingers (like a smoker does with a cigarette) or stuff it back into its kydex holster, the holster has been there so long i can grab and reholster it without thinking
my lights (novatac and V10R) have had a rubber oring added to make the "cigar hold" easier - my ra twisty's waist section is perfect without one)

4. I woukd rather that Henry concentrates on making his great lights even better and leaves the other bits to others
sure a specific clip is a great addition, but most people make their own lanyards from paracord (and theres no hole to attach them to on the current models) diffusers are a good idea, but why reinvent the wheel - surefire makes a perfectly servicable one, probably cheaper than henry coukd have them made (reselling the SF one would be a good move though)
and batteries - they are already for sale on the HDS site - not HDS branded, but recognized brands like AW, Duracell and Batterystation - selling HDS batterys would require relabelling one of these brands (not really worthwhile)

I ordered a custom holster from Hogokansatsukan for my Tactical.
This can definitely be used with a Park Ave suit, securely!

Check out Dan's website for some amazing holsters!

I ordered my light and Holster with Hogo on January 3rd. The wait is killing me!

How do you like your Holster, it looks great! How is the fit for the light and battery?
I prefer the holster over the clip, at least with the holster you can carry a backup battery. That could be pretty important one day!
Cheers.

I'm hoping the answer is no. Those set screws will easily mar anodized aluminum.

It pushes on another piece of metal in order to avoid marring the light.

Hogo, thanks for the pic. Now that I have one, I see the benefits of the lanyard for versatility or perhaps one of your holsters would be a fine addition to my carry options. One question about the clip. If it is attached to the rotary, is there a possibility of scratching the light with the bent end of the clip or is it designed to sit slightly off the light?

So when this clip is applied to the tailcap, will it rub the battery tube when rotating the tailcap?

If it does, I'd love to see the clip attach to the bezel and sport a 2 way clip.
No rubbing on the body yet one can carry bezel up or bezel down.

Just my 2 cents 🙂

+1. Something similar to a long LX2 clip.

I didn't forget a picture of Nessie. I just got home.
Single AA light is still a definite "no go". Sorry guys.
This is the prototype and is not as nice looking as the finished clip should be for the Rotary. On the other side is a small screw that will apply pressure to the bezel or tail to keep it on the light.
I still think a good leather holster is the way to go, but then I'm a bit biased. :duh2:

As someone waiting for a bezel down rotary clip this is profoundly disappointing. It appears to cover the cap knurling, move with the rotary interfering with its one handed operation, and offers a loose clip hold or scratches your head when rotating where the tip should be touching the head. Hopefully the ultimate production version is a far cry from the prototype.

I use a clip to keep a light from falling deeper into my pocket. If it fails I don't loose my light, I have to dig deeper into my pocket to retrieve it. A high quality spring steel clip on with fingers (rubberized on the inside) that gripped the body just below the tail cap would be a far preferred solution for me. If you need something really secure maybe have the equivalent of an attractive tiny hose clamp that would tighten to the body with attached or screw on clip. Best, but unfortunately not retrofittable is reprofile the body to have a slightly larger flat meaty area below the tailcap (where the rotary stop screw sits now) tapped or tappable for a good screw on clip.

I can't see any solution that attached to or touching the rotating part of the light being a viable option.

I think the easiest solution would be the reintroduction of the screw holes on the body, followed by a redesigned Rotary tail cap that would allow the standard pocket clip to be used just like the Clicky, or even trimming a little of the bezel to allow the clip to be mounted under it with out effecting the beam's focus.
Screw holes can be an option on the customs page being that not everyone wants them. A redesigned two piece Rotary tail cap would be nice with the stop screw serving to allow the cap to be tightened/loosened form the battery tube and retaining the Rotary function in-between. And a clip that mounts under the bezel should be easy to do with a separate metal filler ring for when the clip isn't used. I think any of these options is better then the prototype.

Eeeeeeesh!!! I've been waiting for a clip solution ever since my 'early-adopter' purchase of the first generation rotary. Looks like my hopes are dashed. Sorry . . . not a buyer if this is the offering.

I love my rotary but don't carry it because I HATE having a light swimming around in the bottom of my pocket and I don't want to go down the para cord/dangler road. Holster not an option as I rarely wear belts.

I'd be happy with a clip that snaps around the battery tube like on the Fenix TK22, e.g. Not the best alternative for maximizing a secure pocket carry for sure. But I think it's the only way to go on a light without any holes tapped into the head . . .

But, opinions on this subject vary wildly. There seems to be a very small few in this forum who think that those of us who want a clip on the rotary are just plain silly and that we should just roll over and carry the light the way they like to carry it. Sorry. I know what I like. You're not wrong for liking what works for you, and I'm not wrong for wanting something different.

This much I do know: the lack of a good clip on the rotary is a deal breaker for me too. Sucks because I'd buy another in a heartbeat.
