I've yet to receive my first rotary, and without looking the manual wonder if it's the same as the clicky versions. If it is, this is what you do:

  • While on (and with programming enabled) , Click and then press/hold to go to particular mode you want to set
  • Once there, double-click and then press and hold, when you release the button it will flash twice
  • If the output is constant on, press button until it reaches max. Press once more should take you to strobe.
  • While in strobe press and hold button. Light will go from dim to bright to indicate mode has been set.
  • Double click to go to previous mode. While on, press and hold to test.

Thanks for confirming Hondo. Can't wait for mine to come in, I've wanted a Rotary for the longest time and just never jumped on one even when available. But the new EDC Tactical pushed me over the fence to get both.

As far as I know, the parasitic drain in HDS lights remains negligible. You can't really test that using the supplied battery because you don't know what the state of the cell was before shipping.

Yup, I didn't notice any parasitic drain, realistically speaking. Henry is good. If he could only make the interface faster.

I also verified with my Nichia self modded quark qtlc and the output is similar un turbo mode.
A lot of manufacturers overrate their output for a variety of reasons. HDS is, to my knowledge, the only manufacturer that individually calibrates each light after assembly, so if you're seeing a disparity between HDS and other brands, it's almost certainly because the other brands are exaggerating their output. See the following for more information:

Many, many thanks for your help. I had been trying for a couple of days, on and off, to sort the programming out. I think i was holding the button down with the light off an then doing the double tap and press to enter the different levels. I followed your simple instructions and the light is now perfect and programmed like my 2 tactical clickys (got 250 LE clicky on order)

    Turn on: 200lumens
Double click when on: Rotary control
3 clicks when on: lowest mode
Click and hold when on: Tactical strobe

I also have the momentary function enabled and the turn on preset set to always come on in high.

    Thanks again Moshow9

Congratulations! I am jealous can I ask when you ordered your light?

regards,

Dave

I received my second HDS yesterday. A rotary 140 high cri with a nichia 219. what a beautiful tint and beam. And honestly, compared to my L10 nichia with 14500, it's more powerful so i think that the 140 lumen are a little underrated.

I have two questions for you :

- what's the purpose of the small hole on the tail cap ?
- why the head of a rotary can't work on a clicky tail ?

Thanks.

Regards,
Quentin.

I think the new tactical lights really is something different. As far as I know there are no other lights on the market with four different modes available from off, and just to top it off all four are customizable as well 🙂

I have one question though. Is it possible to turn off the two momentary modes in the customization menu so they become normal click on modes?

It's not possible. While the two momentary modes can always be programmed to a different brightness, mode setting, the function cannot be changed from momentary to clicky - and vice versa for the 2 clicky/constant on modes.

Thanks a lot. This is what I thought. If Henry decides to make it an option I would buy one immediately. As it is now I never have the need for the tactical, I would just love to choose mode before I turn on the light. And I find that on my rotary I almost use it like my clicky because I want to know what level I have so battery times are somewhat easy to predict.

Maybe a little Easter egg can be found 🙂

Just ordered a Rotary 170 today from HDS to go with my Rotary 250. Can't wait to get it, I'll let everyone know here how long it took to arrive.
