Ok, thanks for the test. I hoped for a deeper red, but that is ok already. Don't want to try a deep red Osram led instead? :D

Not up to me. I'm just the Lollypop Guild. I don't know what reason Henry picked the led he used but I'm sure he had a good reason for picking that led.

Had my Rotary 250 for several days now. Have been having quite a bit of fun watching Hogo's videos and playing with the programming. I did take a look at it in bright daylight after giving it a wash...mine too has a slight difference in colour of the anodising between the cell tube/tail and rest of body. But you have to look and pay close attention before the difference becomes apparent.

I wouldn't call it difficult. There's simply a learning curve involved. It's like getting a smartphone with a new OS. Just takes some getting used to.

A question for the more experienced HDS owners. How is the flush fit button to hit with your thumb? I'm looking at grabbing my first rotary and I'm torn between the raised vs flush button. I have to he raised button on my clicky and I like how easy it is to activate. I have a big problem with most lights that have a recessed switch, I'm just not able to comfortably hit the switch with my thumb. Is it more flushed or recessed?
Exactly! I had a lot of trouble with my first attempt at programming my light, but eventually it got so easy that I'd get another one and just fly through the set that I wanted.
Made me want to look in the mirror to make sure it was the same guy who had initially found it to be so daunting, but now so simple.

Activating the flush button is a piece of cake using either the tip of your thumb or the joint of it, and I regularly do it both ways.

...I adjusted my brightness levels slightly, enabled mode memory (preset), enabled momentary...
My favorites!

I'd think new people who come here looking for advice and support, who are eager to enjoy a mutual passion for a hobby, would be welcome.

I had the impression CPF was less elitist.
You're most definitely welcome and there's no elites here!

After getting such a headache with my first Clicky, then finding it easy once I'd spent the requisite time getting to know it, I bet that very shortly you'll be reporting back that you've got it licked and be helping others out.

-or, as another option, and what I've done:
set level D to be your Preset On level and set it to the lowest lumens. (Or on a Rotary, set D to be your Rotary level and get any one level you want at any time by twisting to your setting before powering on)
Set level B (your first double-click from D) to med-low. I use Level 15
Set level C (your second double-click from D) to med-high. I use Level 20.
Set level A to max level 24.

On my legacy lights there is a memory when it comes to level B and C, meaning that if i have level D as preset a double click takes me to the last used level B or C.

For me this was kind of annoying since i like to know that i can reach every output with one operation. So for me preset B or preset C is prefered (which there is no way to distinguish if you have turned off preset and changed levels some times, except factory reset).

Can someone confirm if it is like this on the new firmware as well? I guess it is since i think a double click from D is supposed to take you back to your last setting, but maybe Henry has changed it so it always takes you to B?

I've got both types of switches, and the recessed button should be accessible , as it is not flat, but slightly curved.

If you plan to use your light with gloves (work, winter, etc...), it will be like any other light with recessed or small switch. In this scenario, it may be better to get the raised switch version.

Ok. Threw it in the sphere and got 630nm. While at the sphere threw in the green and got 540nm.

Thanks so much for running the test, Hogo. I don't know of any other manufacturer where we could ask questions at this level of detail and get such an exact reply so quickly.

I do realise that this might seem like the ultimate in tint snobbery, but the extra 30 nm of wavelength between 630 and 660 really does make a difference, especially where dark adaptation is concerned. It also looks great - I have one clicky already that I've modded with a 660 nm Osram, and the deep saturated red is spectacular.

I would very happily order a rotary to go with it if Henry would consider doing a run with the longer wavelength (or even switching to 660 nm as standard).

One of the things that sets HDS apart is the amount of thought that has gone into understanding the human visual system and how it works. Coupled with the ability to go really low the longer wavelength would make the HDS by far the best solution for dark adaptation.

I'll ad my thanks to Hogo also and to Moonshadow for summing it up so well.
I'm with Moonshadow, except my order would be for a clicky with such an LED.

The light I've been testing this on is a HDS Clicky 200 with the pre-2014 firmware. I can confirm the it always goes to the level B regardless of the level being on B or C before turning it off.

Oh believe me, I'm going to bring it up. I remember having two red lights in the past and one was deep deep deep red, and I always liked that one more. I'll see what I can do here, even if it's a "limited run" of 660nm.

Hogo - that would be excellent news, and judging by this thread you would have several takers already for even a limited run.

Not much more to say, except >>:thanks: !!

This should be put on the sticky.

Memory is an option you can choose in the options menu.

You misunderstood - I already have preset set to level D. This was in answer to someone else's question.
