Thanks I'm looking for a back up light to the hcri 200 with the white reflector .
what Would you suggest ?
does hds have any thrower lights?.
so I'd have a close up and throw light.
i have an elzetta 650 cool white bravo, but....
i read about elzetta lights getting rid of their cool white tactical lights in favour of neutral white - about better object recognition and seeing through haze fog better.

what does hds users say on this?.

Thanks.

What size light & battery are you wanting?

I'm not an HDS user yet (my first is on order but hasn't yet arrived...or shipped. Its a HCri 200 Rotary.) and I know nothing about Elzetta lights, but I can speak to tint playing a role in object recognition and glare. I've got lots of lights and have experimented with different emitters and tints quite a bit. Here's two comparison photos, made a few minutes apart one hazy night last fall, camera fully on manual so the settings are the same for both.

1. Olight Sr Mini II, cool white triple flooder:

2. Custom-built by myself, a triple XP-L HI, 5E blended emitters at 4000K:

They're not a direct comparison since the Olight has a more floody optic than I used on my custom triple, but I think you can still see the difference that tint makes to the overall beam. The difference in glare is especially obvious in the upper left corner since that's where I was holding the lights in relation to the camera.

For a thrower type application I would be looking at a Malkoff HoundDog or something of that nature.

A thrower doesn't need 24 different light levels of which half are below 1 lumen.

A good thrower light would be the Olight M2X with a single 18650, or perhaps the Surefire Peacekeeper(although not near the throw of the Olight.) Just my .02.

The thrower half of my thrower/flooder pair that I carry, is the Surefire EB1T. It has an optic and throws like nobody's business (with just enough spill to be useful). EB1T is a 1xCR123/RCR123 light, you could also try the EB2T which is a 2xCR123 (might take 1x18650, not sure).

I've been saying for a while that warm and neutral emitters (especially with a high CRI) are objectively superior to cool white for the reasons stated. Nice to see at least one manufacturer getting with the program.

New arrival: 200 HCRI Clicky with flood reflector and 2xAA battery compartment. It's certainly long, which will take some acclimation.

I have a handful of other HDS lights, so I needed to come up with some rationale for another. This new light is intended for indoor or close up work only. Also it will be excellent for long lasting, low level lighting in an emergency situation so that AA batteries can be scavenged. Sure, a $30 light could be pressed into service in that case, but if you're reading this thread you probably enjoy $30 lights as much as I do.

The flood reflector is pretty crazy. It's the smoothest beam I've ever seen, there is absolutely no hotspot, no features, no rings or artifacts of any kind. Just a circle of soft light. It makes the standard HDS reflector seem like an absolute throw monster in comparison. If you're considering the diffuse reflector, be warned it is pure flood. I think it's great in this particular application but I personally would never choose it for EDC or general purpose use. It's only going to illuminate your close range immediate area.

JohnSmith, any chance you could share a photo of a beamshot with us? I'm interested in seeing the beam profile in action.

Does anyone know if Henry has ever considered giving the UI the ability to hold different profiles for the user programmable configuration?

For example, I use my light very differently when I am walking my dogs than I do for work. It would be great to be able to have profiles for each.
That just seems incredibly complex for a device that is operated with a single button. There's also a limit to how much data can be stored in the IC's, and I'm pretty sure the lights are at their limit.

Does anybody know how long after ordering does it take Henry to ship their light?

One data point doesn't mean much but since I've only ordered once and never actually received a light, my experience is
.

I'm messing around a bit, of course. I think the truth is that it depends on what you order. Normal, uncustomized lights ship quickly assuming there's no extenuating circumstances. Right now there are circumstances surrounding the Rotary lights and those are delayed for an undetermined amount of time. If you've ordered a customized light or a Rotary then all bets are off.

Bottom line: If you're in a hurry and you want an HDS, you should buy from a retailer who has them in stock.

Hello has the hds hcri 200 4000k 219b been tested to 93 hcri ?.
anyone tested this?.

i thought the 219a could reach 93 but not the 219b as on some nichia threads here on cpf some prefer the warmer, "higher cri" of the A than the B.
I thought the B had more brightness and less CRI to the A.

thanks.
Henry tests and calibrates all of his lights to ensure they meet the advertised specs. He doesn't "fluff up" his figures in anyway. What you see is literally what you get. It's a rare case of truth in advertising.

For what it's worth, the custom 2xAA Clicky I posted above was ordered on 12/31 and delivered 1/13. As stated above, if you order something that requires parts not currently not in stock, you may have a significant wait. Before ordering, I sent an email to check if the 2xAA battery tube was in stock, as I was in the mood for immediate gratification.

What bothers me more is that he continues to give dates (usually something like "end of the week") and those dates continue to be missed. Just be up front and honest about it.
