A question to show how much I don't know... if I had my 170n Rotary upgraded to 219c, world it be as efficient as one coming off the line? Or is there a difference in more than the emitter?
Thanks

Without having it reprogrammed, the driver itself will continue with the same driving levels as before, so you probably won't get any runtime benefits. However, since it is a power regulated driver, it will greatly depend on the Vf of the new led...since normally new 219C have lower Vf than older 219B, and are also producing more light, you will very probably get more light...like 220lm maybe?

I think the driver has also limits on the driving current, so in the case you replace a very bad factory led by a very good aftermarket one, you might be very lucky and get more runtime AND more light (might be more sensible with CR123A batteries).
If you have it reprogrammed, then it'll probably be similar as a factory 219C light, without the potting of the led board.

Exactly what Lithium466 said.

I also find the 5000k "appears" brighter than the 4000k. I know it is exactly the same lumens, but for me it just seems brighter. I'm off to the desert to do some camping this weekend so I'll try to get some outdoor nighttime desert pictures with the 4000 and 5000k.

4K or bust. Or lower. ;)

4000k seems to be the sweet spot for me. Gunga just stripped this 120T and installed an XPL-HI 4000k, beautiful tint. Warm, but not yellow like 219c. Hint of rose but not pinkish like 219b. And the output and and beam shape in the Novatac is impressive, especially considering its such an old light.

The 4k is like sunset & I can't decide if 5 has a hint of blue / purple around the edges of the beam. Not the hot spot, but the edge of the spill.
