I have never owned an HDS with triple click lockout so can’t give an opinion. Please could someone explain how it works as I presume it shuts the light down. So then do you have to triple click it again before you can use?

Yes, it works pretty much like that. It'll blink at you once activated denoting that it's locked out and needs another triple click to activate.
While I like it, it can be annoying on a clicky. Say you click the light on and decide you want to toggle to another level hence a double click it can sequence a triple click leading to lock out. While it doesn't happen too frequently it can be annoying.
I'd rather, say four clicks for lock out.
Being able to activate beacon mode with a series of clicks would be nice too as with this firmware it's either always on or off.

Oh I see, I have never had a reason to lock my HDS out but I have the flush button so I never have an issue of it coming on unnecessarily.

Lockout has to have the light off in order to activate. If the light is on, a triple click takes you to preset D. That's how lockout used to work before it was taken out of the software.
In the current software, Locator flash has to be enabled in the options menu, then can be toggled on and off with 4 clicks from off.

My HDS lights are all of recent vintage so never had 3-click lockout...right now I have 3-click programmed on my clicky to high (level 22) and use it often. 3-click lockout would probably take some getting used to for me. On the rotary, I almost never use any of the other presets (I kind of forget they are there) so it be welcomed there.
Side note: has any thought ever been given to offering a “triad-type” tailcap or other sort of tailcap design that might mitigate accidental activation of the raised button? Just wondering...

Oops, just saw Hogo’s explanation of 3-click lockout...it’s not part of the presets...ok...good...all in for that.

Only problem I have with the 3 click lockout is a matter of timing : for example my light is off, I click to turn it on, then wants to change to the double clic setting. If I don't wait enough between the first clic and the double clic, it engages the lockout mode. But it only happens to me once in a while, and I know I have to wait a bit, that's all :)

You know, many including myself would love a longer throw HDS. I'm sure one of the issues would be that Henry doesn't want to make the head larger. Would it be possible for some kind of TIR insert to be used? This way when/if you want flood light back you could switch to a standard reflector.

Alrighty...
been a while to post.... question on rotary tailcap and the universal pocket clip. I have a hogo special run with 18650 tube rotary i put to use alot. Kinda think the rotary tailcap has more wiggle in it than it used to. I know bein a clip guy im in the minority but has anyone else noticed this? I feel it wiggles enough where it really doesnt clip tight enough to hold without worry of it falling out of my pocket... yes clip is tight, its the ‘play’ in the spinning part of the tailcap that has all the wiggle.....

Oh and just a kudos to henry too-
im sending one of my old legacy lights that has parasitic drain in to be fixed finally after all these years. He emailed me back right away... and stands behind his lights...

hey another question- anyone tossed one of those universal clips on an old school twisty light? Does it fit? Looks like it might. Im just too lazy to try right now... lol

Is this wishful thinking or something that has been confirmed as true?? Eneloop nuts need to know!!
The only things I tend to make outright statements like that about are when I've been told from someone reliable that it'll be coming, and that person was Henry. We all remember a couple years ago when he said it was never going to happen, but minds change and he's now working it out in his mind. (I've assumed you were talking about either the 18350 or 14500 tubes.)

About the 18350 tubes, last year he said he wasn't sure how he was going to make the 16340 cells not rattle around and when I saw him earlier in the month he said he's now got it figured out.

And I think it's important to note here for some of the HDS FNG's that means to Henry's satisfaction & not solve the rattle issue by slapping a piece of cut PVC pipe inside the battery compartment. It has to be intentional & intuitive with designed purpose rather than the first thing that comes to mind.

Each tube will come with some duct tape to wrap around the battery... if I designed it. Thank goodness I'm not designing it!
