We use lights extensively during our races (1-5 days duration). We have now settled on a combination of LS type lights. The main light is the Arc LS 2AA. The secondary is a Petzl Zoom modified to take a LS LED. Superb light quality and you can even do fartleg at night on cross country roads (if you so wish!). The last option is a PT Matrix modified to take the Opalec Newbeam module. For use when long life and warning of battery state are required.

I am loolking for a new headlamp with a little more firepower.. I currently use a PT Aurora and like it.. I have heard a lot of good things about the SL Septop and the Photon Fusion.. I will be using primarily for night hikes and maybe some caving later on.. One of the lights I have also heard about is a 9 led light called the Luxbrite headlamp. Has anyone had much experience with any of these lights and there opinions would be appreciated..

Thanks,
Erik

I have a Septor and it is very handy. I don't know about caving use but for camping/hiking/backpaking it is great. The battery life is not bad except I only wish they made a regulator chip for it. I think the Septor has the highest value of all LED headlights. It is only $30 and has a nice strap, whiter Nichia LEDs, adjustable, sturdy case, etc.

The Photon Fusion is regulated but I have heard lots of reliability issues concerning it.

Never heard of the Luxbrite before.

If you get a Septor take out the reflector as it does very litle except causes rings in the beam.

I agree with Ratso about the Septor, espically about takeing out the reflector. Have no idea why they bothered to put it in. TX
