Help choosing McGizmo Haiku!

Candle Power Flashlight Forum

Help Support CPF:

You made quite an entry yourself with a 6v Haiku. I just like the balance and moderation in Don's lights. It is a functional tool for most conditions. Very good compromise in output, runtime, form, value. With good customer service and response.

Now switching levels on your 6v. Try double clicking a touch slower.

Thanks Ben! I tried double clicking slower and faster than my first time, but I haven't gotten the hang of it. Anyways, I'm very excited about this flashlight!

Any idea what the run-time on each setting is? I'm using Titanium CR123A 3V primaries. Haven't found a definitive answer on the forums yet...

I think I will do the same nbp. I just sent off my email. Any particular reason why you call him "The Man?" Is it some sort of title? 😉

Edit: That was fast... 2 days to decide on a flashlight. And it is all thanks to you guys! 🙂

Don is the Grand-daddy of Custom flashlights. He created a system of modularity still in use by builders here years later. His switches and reflectors are used in not only his lights, but in those of other high end ultra reliable makers. His clip design has been imitated by other custom makers and outright stolen by foreign makers. Actually many of his products have been "cloned" over the years. :scowl: His PD design is genius and has been licensed to other makers as well. His line of hardware (especially the Ti stuff) is the best available and highly desireable. One could go on and on. Don's contribution to the flashlight community is incalculable. He is The Man! 😉

Aha! I am glad to say that after tinkering around with the flashlight, I can now switch modes perfectly! The trick is to "half press" the button while the flashlight is off, and then full press on the mode you want to stay on. E.g. to cycle, just "half press" - low, med, high
E.g. to get to a specific mode, half press until you get to the mode and then press all the way down until click.

I don't think that you are supposed to "double click" on the 6V Haiku XM-L, at least.

All of Don's present LE operates the same. You can either bleep or fully press the switch. The idea is to create an off on cycle. Each time this happens, the LE will switch. You only need to find the correct timing.

The 3s is somewhat voltage sensitive. If you have a fully charged battery, then the cycle has to be shorter. As the battery drains and voltage drops, the cycle becomes longer.

I have found the 6v a touch longer than the 3s.

There is video on switching levels in YouTube. Don made that video.

Thanks for the video! I can't master the double click cycling for my life 🙁
I opted instead for the "half push"
Don't know why he keeps saying the video is lame, thought it was very informative and funny 🙂

A very cool video 🙂

No kiddin! I'm waiting for my tethers to come in so I can goof around with it to figure out what to use it for. They seem so handy I had to pick one up. And I think my buddy is gonna love the one I got for him too.

Thanks for all of the support guys! Think I'm going to go on hiatus from buying flashlights haha
Think my next purchase will be the makai (not for an edc, but more for "outdooring"), but who knows... someone might convince me otherwise!

I'm going to get a Makai this year, for sure. I've wanted one for a long time. It'll be next on my list, unless Henry finally produces a titanium HDS (not holding my breath)...

Haha yeah the makai looks like it could be used as a club... best of luck to you!
