I have a hella 35w hid 12v that I got a short in the power supply. I put a new cigarette lighter end on it and all I get is a flash and then nothing more out of the light. Every time I put power to it it will continue to strike and then nothing. The fuse is ok but I'm wondering if I ruined something in the ballast. Oh I forgot to mention that I reversed the polarity for about 3 seconds when I hooked it up. With my luck its toast. Any ideas about what's wrong is greatly appreciated.

Try using the metal case for ground instead of the ground wire also try powering directly from a car battery instead of cigarette lighter. Hella ballast is a CURRENT HOG at start up. If the voltage drops too much it will shut down exactly as you desribe.

There is a fusable link (ground) in a Hella ballast if that is gone then the case can be used to provide ground instead of the ground wire.
