Hi everyone. Newbie flashoholic here with his first post.

Just wanted to know if anyone could help me identify what LEDs these El Cheapo Made-in-China flashlights use. They're being sold everywhere and are dirt cheap, some for as little as $3 USD.

They're made of aluminum. The 3xAAA's performance is kinda pathetic and it chews up NiMhs like crazy, but the 1xAA's beam and runtime is somewhat decent. I bought them for the fun of it , and besides I kinda like their strike bezels :D. Any guesses folks?

Those are Chinese-made LEDs, not lumileds or cree's. In particular, the first one is a surface-mount type led, with the pos./neg. leads integrated into the board/star. They have decent output and are probably much cheaper to make than it would cost them to buy genuine Luxeons or other leds. Don't know much about their longetivity but they do alright! Just not as bright as Crees or SSC's of course =)

You could probably swap the LEDs out for a Seoul LED for more performance.

They both seem to be generic, cheap LEDs.

Thanks for the nice welcome folks!

Yes mcmc, they do have decent outputs and indeed are quite inexpensive. I think I'll start a collection of the 1xAA models with their cute little strike bezels.

A couple of months back the sidewalk hawkers used to sell nothing but multiple LED deals, now we're getting to see these single LED versions. I'll do some additional research on CPF and read up on modding and stuff.

Thanks again.
