Hello. New to flashlights and Im trying to decide between these 2 lights. Anyone that has either of these lights could you give some pro's and con's. Thanks for any help.

I guess it really depends on what you are looking for. I have an RRT2 that I use every night at work. My shift partner just got a TA30 off my recommendation. Just an hour ago we compared beamshots with his TA30 and my RRT2. The TA30 has the same output and reflector as the TA21. The RRT2 has a little more throw and a little less flood than the TA30. And likewise the TA30 is meant to be a little more for flood but at the same time I was impressed with the amount of throw. I am not sure what you are using your light for but I think the TA21 has too many levels of output. If in tactical situations I think the TA20 or TA30 would be better since it only has 4 levels of output. I think you would be happy with either light. I have a couple fenix lights and they have been awesome.
I cannot really think of any cons to my RRT2. I have it running off one 18650. But like I said the RRT2 has a little more throw and I like the randomized strobe feature; I don't really use it that often but it is unique.

i just got a TA21 as my first high quality flashlight and it makes my old mag 4D seem like a dinosuar! i love the momentary switch and the quality is top notch, i do night security at a school in the woods and need a bright light to see deep into the woods for bears and such. i am waiting for reveiws to comeout for the new fenix 650lumen 2/18650 as i seem to be hooked now:party:

hi,
the rotary switch of the TA21 is a clever idea, as it allows to keep a real tactical use.
but having 12 modes is a bit useless since you'll rarely use more than 4, and the beam has a very noticeable cree ring.

two cons about the TA21 : important size and average performances (for the price)

that's why i would suggest you to consider the jetbeam..;)

if you actually use the light and not wall hunt then analyse & enjoy the beam profile, i can't why any rings would matter.

The RRT-1 has a larger diameter head (to house a larger reflector) and is a dedicated "thrower", while the RRT-2 has a more compact head. Other than that they are identical.

Don't have a TA-21 so can't comment - but I do have an RRT-2 and it is solidly built, functional and powerful. Also take a look at it's cousins, the Jet III - Military, and the monster M1X. Jetbeam makes outstanding lights.

Out of interest, since the bodies are identical, are the head/reflectors interchangeable beween the RRT1 & 2?
