I recently picked up a rayovac sportsman extreme lantern. I like this lantern by the way... I need a good rechargeable solution to run this light. It takes 3 D's what do you recommend?

Thanks for the info so far... It raises a few more questions for me...

Those accupower lsd Ds look interesting, where's a good place to buy them? Is there a decent charger that won't break the bank? Is there an easy way to charge them with my lacrosse bc900?

The only source I know of for the accupower LSD cells is thomasdistributing. Lots of folks here have ordered from them with good results.

As for a reasonably priced charger for D cells that will do a pretty decent job- first thing that comes to mind is the titanium MD-3000 from batteryjunction.

I recommend that you FIRST evaluate your mAh (per day/week/month) needs for it and THEN choose a cell.

There's no economy in buying a 10,000mAh D cell that's going to last months and months under infrequent usage where a 2000mAh AA cell w/adapter may need to be charged weekly - monthly. You get your best ROI on a cell that is used as DEEPLY as possible (capacity; exercising ALL the chemicals) and as OFTEN as possible (frequency; keeping it vibrant). If you would only be charging the D cell twice a year, it'll die of old age before you reach anything near 500 cycles. Charge the AA once a week and that's 10 years.

Also, unless you own one already, you'll have to buy a new charger for Ds.
